MS PNP2; No spark when cranking
 

I have a '96 1.8l turbo that has no spark when cranking. Crank position sensor is stock, running a 36-2 Fab9 trigger wheel.
I recently did an entire engine rebuild and after my initial "test for oil pressure" cranks realized that I cannot get the engine to start.

Things I have tested so far:
- Did a Spark Test [Interval 100, Dwell 3ms] in TunerStudio and confirmed that when I force a spark I can get one. Coil A and Coil B fire off without issues, confirmed by pulling out the plug wires from the spark plug side and with a timing light
- Ensured that when I am at TDC, my two missing trigger teeth are at the 9-10 o'clock position
- Did a Trigger log and cranked for 30 seconds. No trigger signals were recorded in those 30 seconds.
- Ensured Trigger type was set to "Miata 36-2"
- Ensured that my Crank PS was a credit card's width from the teeth and was perpendicular to the teeth.

At this point, I'm sure that its either a bad Crank or Camshaft position sensor. As both are expensive, I'm looking for any advice or further tests I can try to before I purchase one or the other.
Both sensors were pulled off my previous engine and were running just fine a year ago.
I figured I could hook up a multimeter to the sensors, but I'm not even sure what I would be looking for.

The stock NA 1.8 front crank sensor will not work. Your Pnp and wiring won’t even read it.

if you haven’t done any rewiring you can set your car to 4G63 trigger and it should just run.


if you want to use your 36-2 trigger you need to do some rewiring. Your car should wire very similar to mine. You will need to get a NB crank sensor and you can use your existing CAS for cam signal.
