Default Wiring for Sequential Ignition on Reverant Enhanced MS2 Not Working

Below is a quote from Reverant (copied from another thread) on how to wire up the sequential ignition. I'm using the reverant enhanced MS2 for my 00 turbo miata (firmware 3.3.0f). I wired it up like that and switched the ignition to the "coil on plug" in tuner studio but no start.

I have cylinder 2 wired to pin 7 and cylinder 4 to pin 6. The other ends are wired up to pin 2 on the coils (trigger wire per this thread). Any ideas on where I went wrong here? Is there some jumper I need to set to get this going?

The wire for ignition on cylinders 1 + 4, becomes cylinder 1.
The wire for ignition on cylinders 2 + 3, becomes cylinder 3.
Connect cylinder 4 to the DB-37, pin 6 (Ign C).
Connect cylinder 2 to the DB-37, pin 7 (Ign D).

have you tested the outputs using output test mode?

Thanks for the help, much appreciated

Well first off I'm retarded because I soldered the new ignition wires onto pins 31-32 instead of 6-7. I fixed that but still no start. A couple of the plugs looked pretty fouled from all the cranking so I suspect that could be why. Will try to get some new one's tomorrow

I tried the output test mode but for some reason A, B, C and D are all firing cylinder 1. I know it's not wired that way. Is there some special trick to get it to fire the other cylinders?

Damn, still no luck with the new plugs. I wish I could get the test mode to work right. It's a real ***** to work with. I could only get it to work at all by turning off "coil mode" each time, tabbing out, turning it back on, then tab out again. But like I said it only fires one coil no matter what channel I set test mode to so it's not super useful (or is it?)

I know I have everything wired up right now though. With the weather being so nice in the northeast right now, I'm halfway tempted to just reinstall my stock 99-00 coil packs if that gives you an idea how desperate I am!

A little more back story: Right now I have the Corolla COPS and they were wired for wasted spark but I was getting some spark blowout in the upper ranges of RPM's in 2nd gear at full boost (about 11PSI on GT2560R). My hope is that the MS2 will be able to drive the coils better by just firing one at a time.

It took me a bit to figure out. Now I feel like a dummy, because it's actually pretty easy.
Test mode
Single coil
Coil A, B, C, or D

Remove fuel pump connection.
Enable fuel pump on the screen
Set a dwell time
Test.
Stop test.

Are your plugs grounded?

Appreciate the help man. I don't believe my "output test mode" screen in Tunerstudio has a drop down for "single coil" or "sequence". I'll double check when I get home from work though. Yeah, my plugs were grounded, I was able to get the cylinder 1 coil to spark in test mode

EDIT: I think part of my problem is that I was starting test mode and then selecting the coil I wanted. I think you may have to do it the other way around. I'll give that a shot when I get home.

The Toyota COPs will work fine in batch mode up to approx 25psi, tested on multiple cars. If you are getting spark blowout at just 11psi, your issue not with the coil configuration. Try different plugs, and gap them lower if needed.

Appreciate the advice Dimitris! I know you are a busy man so thanks for responding. I want to give this sequential setup another shot since I already ran the wires, but if I can't get it in a few days I'll just wire it back to wasted spark and experiment a bit more with different plugs and gaps.

Well you were right, I don't think the wasted spark setup was the cause for the blowout. I believe it was the spark plugs. I got the ones recommended by FM with my kit (NGK ZFR6F-11) and ended up replacing them with the NGK 4644 (BKR7E) recommended here. Perhaps the extended ones are no good. I even found an old post on M.net where Keith at FM was saying they are no good (but the installation manual hasn't been updated).

I couldn't get the sequential setup to work so I just wired it back to wasted. Output test mode is not useful at all though, definitely something wrong with that. I only ever messed with the wires for cylinder 2 and 4 yet no matter what I do only cylinder 1 fires after selecting all the different Ignition channels (A,B,C,D). It just doesn't make any sense

Perhaps you habe already burned out some of the coils? Have you switched them around, to the working "channel?

I think you misunderstood my post, it's running great now in wasted spark with the new plugs. There's definitely something wrong with the output test mode. How can only cylinder 1 fire in test mode when it runs fine? I tried every possible sequence of messing with the settings, BTW
