MSPNP GEN 2 setup
 

Hey guys I got my miata from my brother who bought it and gave up on it.
To save a long story it had a bad cylinder head and decided to do a mild over haul on the engine. New internals but still factory. I really dont plan to go crazy with it but been itching to learn how to tune.

The turbo kit it has was an old FM2 turbo kit with t25 turbo RC550cc low z injectors and Engine data link management (which since it worked i used it to break in the engine)

I recently acquired a mspnp gen 2 for it. Installation was easy, set up was easy but since it was my first time doing this i wanted to make sure i have all my settings correct. I got alot of my info from Megamanual.com but still learning

I used ve analyzer to street tune it alittle bit to get my fuel tables stable enough to alter them to my driving style. (hince i know my ve fuel tables look like crap and afr tables are meh) possibly my ignition table is alittle aggressive.

My main concern is my injector set up. I got the dead time set at .69 and req fuel 5.5

deadtime seems pretty fast for RC injectors. otherwise, you should be using msextra.com for your reading.

I'm running a 99 motor in my 96 miata with the newer FM2 setup on RC550s. Displacement is the same, my compression is actually closer to the NAs. 99 head flows a bit better though. Check out my settings. Spark needs to be bumped for optimal performance, but it will be safe for tuning VE and other settings.

what did you base the timing map off? that's a hell of a lot of timing in cruise. 10* more than i've ever seen.

is the MS controlling VICS?

perfect. Thanks I believe i just got this guy figured out... Funny story though. When every time i would get her up to 4300 rpms at 75% throttle or more it would fall flat on its face. kept looking at my data logs over and over, just to find out my over boost protection was set too low :bang: Just fine tuning from here.

Based directly on the FM base maps for the hydra. Runs smooth for me so far.

Verified with FM that map is supposed to run in the 50s. Not sure if there's a difference between spark from NA to NB. Maps are for NB, which is the motor I have, but still NA coils, wires, etc. I emailed FM and they verified that most modern vehicles run in the 50s at cruise. NA and NB came stock with cruise values similar to what most of you are using with the MS. And then theres a potential difference in spark circuit speed between the Hydra and the MS. Not sure there's any real difference there. Everything on the board is solid-state, right?

Anyways, I'm going to run spark similar to Brain in cruise just to be safe. I'd rather burn some extra fuel than torch another motor.

Out of curiosity, how is your idle and idle recovery?

Idle is not the best, but idle recovery is very good. I reset the idle set screw to get idle a bit higher which helped with stability. I also have my idle valve set to never close, which will wear it out eventually, but recovery is a heck of a lot better. Just set close time to zero.

Setting timing relatively high lower than idle rpm will help to ensure you don't stall out on recovery or with wild idle. LS2 coils helped substantially with idle and sequential injection also helps.

Interesting. Thanks for posting the MSPNP2 base map though. I'll try out some of the settings for other things that have been bothering me about my DIYPNP setup on my 90.
