MSPNP questions

I am looking into getting a megasquirt PNP. I have been doing tons of research but still have some questions. I believe the guy I bought the car from has different O2 sensors on the car, does that matter? If so does anyone know where I can get OEM O2 sensors? My car currently has idling problems, it ranges from 1000rpm all the way up to about 1900rpm. It will idle at different spots randomly. Should I try and fix that before I purchase a megasquirt or will the megasquirt fix that. I also have another problem, according to the previous owner the timing is set for premium fuel and he said to only put premium in it. If i get the megasquirt would that set my timing back to stock so I could use regular fuel? Yes I am going to turbo my car. That is why I have all these questions, everyone says the first thing you want to do is get and install megasquirt. Are wbo2 or narrowband types of O2 sensors? If anyone has links to tuning tutorials, help, or what every abbreviation stands for that I will see when using megasquirt I would really appreciate it. Thanks for looking

You need a wideband to run MS, and you need to search.
Your high idle could be a vacuum leak. Do you have a vacuum gauge on your car now?

I found out about the narrow and wideband. I now know what they both are, and no I currently do not have a vacuum gauge. If you can possibly tell me how to set one up I will look into getting one soon

set what up?

Recommend you go over to miata.net and read through their garage section (http://www.miata.net/garage/). Adding a turbo and using this site requires that you already know some of the fundamentals.

I thought I knew the basics but i guess not lol, and I was referring to the vacuum gauge. I was asking if there is a specific vacuum line that i would need to set up a gauge

Any Vac line off the intake manifold will suffice.

Ok thanks, that is what I was thinking but I was not positive. And thanks for the link Hornetball, it is very helpful. Do you know of any sites that are specifically about standalones, or wiring and electrical systems? Those are by far my weakest points

I learned everything i know about EMS from the MS manual and this forum. You can do the same. Read the entire manual, even if it doesn't make sense (which it wont at first), then read the forum some more, then go back over the manual again. Then play with your megasquirt on your car, and reference the manual if you run into any questions. Rinse and repeat.

Do you get a physical manual when you buy the megasquirt or did you read the megamanual online index?

The MSPNP ships with a manual on CD but not a hard copy.

Ok thanks, for the vacuum gauge what would I do with the line I unplug? I run a vacuum line from the gauge to the intake manifold, but where I put the line from the gauge I will be unplugging a line from somewhere else. What do I do about that line?

kfrancis 02-14-2012 05:39 PM

Nevermind lol I already got it.
