please help noob set up ALPHA-N Fueling algo, and the table values

1994 miata, built block with 1999 intake and 2000 heads, cop ignition, no MAF k&n cool air, racing header and magnaflow cat back exhaust

MS-pnp gen1 running tuner studio (the newest version) and firmware for a 9495nomaf

tired of the screwy idle and then spending weeks getting a good VE table and afr table and then all of a sudden it runs like sheet.

couple of pre-questions...
I was running speed density for a while, also my idle MAP kpa never exceeded 16mapkpa and i think in moderate accel it would read like 20mapkpa
is this right???

Ive seen a little on this aplha-n fueling deal, so very curious as to how much better i can get this thing tuned up with using a TPS to RPM based injector flow time or whatever

So i set my project properties to alpha-n....my VE tables Y-axis's when hay wire! the values on the y axis for both AFR table and VE table all say -2148762341 were is used to be a MAPkpa value from 5 to 100
what do i put for the values of the y axis' for my tables?>
what other settings do i need to change for alpha-n fueling?

can i get some real feed back this time all the other times ive posted on this forum i was just told i was a noob and reverted back to a sticky...well i searched everywere i cant find a sticky on setting up TS for alpha

From megamanual.com:

With boosted engines, you MUST use the speed density algorithm with MegaSquirt® EFI Controller, because the throttle position bears little relationship to the amount of air going into the engine. Alpha-N is for naturally aspirated engines ONLY.

Also, unless this is a drag car you should probably forget about it. Alpha-N is a low resolution tune for when you use the throttle like an ON/OFF switch and is meant for idle or WOT only. You will have absolutely terrible street drivability using it.

If you can't tune speed density, what makes you think you'll be able to tune alpha-n which is harder to tune than speed density? Why don't you make sure your MAP sensor works before you try a inferior fueling algorithm.

That's a pretty low reading for idle. The best check of the calibration is to be sure you're getting ~100 kPa with the key on and engine off.

Even if the calibration is off and you're using 2.5 bar calibration with a 4 bar sensor (16 kPa is pulling a LOT of vacuum at idle), that's good enough vacuum at idle that it doesn't sound like this motor would benefit from running alpha-N.

I always thought that it was really low. ive ha issues tuning the idle I think for that very reason.

If i have a 2000 head on my 94 that must mean i have a 2000 manifold. also then what MAP sensor do i need?, How am i supposed to know if it even works... and if i replaced the sensor would it fix the problem

Q: How do I confirm what MAP sensor is in your MS?

A: Open it up and read the number off the sensor, then Google it.

Q: How do you confirm its calibrated correctly?

A: Turn on the ignition but do not crank the engine. What does the gauge in Tuner Studio say? If its not somewhere in the neighborhood of 100kpa, something is wrong.

Confirm the 100ish kpa and get back to us ;)

There's no manual for tuning Alpha-N because it's not something that should be attempted by people who need a manual. Sorry.

"If you have to ask..."

Ok so the best gauge readings i could get out of the 4 different project properties i chose was the 400map kpa
i got 88 on the barometer and a 20 map kpa .. baro adc is like 14

mx5autoxer 02-07-2014 11:53 AM

So which MAP sensor do you have?

XH6400. the 4bar one.

so much easier to tune now.....I just exited a new realm of retard.

kind of just learning how to tune backwards / the hard way...
example: fck with something in the hopes that my car will go faster, but it resulting in an issue. then fixing the issue....thus learning what the hell something is and its purpose in life
