Run boost gauge from ECU MAP?
Hey everybody. I tried to search for this but I couldn't find anything on here (or on msextra).
Just curious if it is possible to run a digital boost gauge based on the MAP being read by the ECU. I'd assume you could just program an output in tunerstudio to send a voltage signal based on what the gauge expects to see from its sensor, but I may be totally wrong. Reasons: - only one vacuum line - consistent pressure between gauge and ECU Is anybody doing this? |

The best way to do this is over CAN-bus and an arduino. As far as I know you can't just output a variable voltage based on a parameter.

not that I know of, because:
-doesn't matter as long as they're not leaking -no one really cares about the boost gauge when tuning anyway, and even in normal driving it's more for economy or entertainment than anything else. |
Fair enough. Yeah I don't really care about monitoring the b00stz in real time besides for entertainment value. I haven't ordered a 2nd gauge to fill my other slot yet, so I'm considering something more sensible, like oil temp/pressure.

I kept going back and forth on deciding on a boost gauge for the MSM and ended up not even bothering.
Tune was stop on so it's not like I had to let to actually monitor boost real time. But you can probably pick up a cheapie to blink cool lights at you lol |
I did this...it leaked...screwed up everything (and I didn't know it for a long time). It's just another point of failure IMHO. Skip the boost gauge - get an oil pressure (and temp) gauge and profit.

Run boost gauge from ECU MAP?
I have it teed off the MAP sensor line. I use a gauge because I have an adjustable EBC. And I have occasionally been happy to have it for troubleshooting (coupler blew off or wastegate not shutting completely). I at least knew why the car was behaving strangely and that I could continue back to the paddock rather than worrying about the engine.
I often adjust to run lower boost on the track to preserve the car so a gauge and an adjustment dial suit my needs. |
