Default Best EBC for MSPNP

I hope I'm not rehashing but is there an electronic boost controller that is generally prefered? Also, when does an EBC become necessary/helpful? This is one area that I'm not too familiar with and I think its because there aren't a lot of discussions about it. I'll go back in Maximum Boost to see if I just forgot this stuff, but I don't remember a lot on the subject in that book.

The best EBC is the one that you build yourself at Home Depot, or buy from eBay for $15. MS1 EBC is total garbage and is not even worth playing with.

When I had an MSPNP I repurposed the EBC output to actuate the VICS, and used a manual boost controller.

I'm running the EBC valve that DIY sells for the MSPNP. I really like it. I'm fully spooled to 10psi by 3700RPM, and it is rock solid all the way to redline. This is on a Greddy with the Greddy downpipe. It was really easy to tune. With MS1 and MSPNP, it is an open loop system, but it seems rock solid.

One more thing, besides the spool improvement, my favorite part of EBC is that you can setup the duty cycle target table to vary with the TPS. That way, if you only use, say, 75% throttle, you end up at 7psi instead of 10psi. You can make throttle response very linear with this feature. Really feels like a bigger engine rather than a turbo engine.

I'm thinking that Sav may be referring to closed-loop boost control (i.e., where you specify boost targets instead of open-loop control valve duty cycles). That flat out doesn't work on an MS1/MSPNP.

The problem with open loop boost control on the MS1 is that how much boost you make can change because of temperature. I think it was Hustler he saw 20 degree temp changes between tuning it in the morning and then going out for lunch and the amount of boost would be different.

I've not seen much variation at all so far. I'll be interested to see what happens as the weather gets cooler.
