VVT setup/wiring issue

2 Attachment(s)
Hi. I have a Ford BA with a Barra 6cyl dohc with vvt and an MS3X V3.57.
I have control of fuel and ignition, I'm now trying to control the vvt, the wiring is completed but the vvt angle gauge reads rubbish.
I've tried different settings with no luck.
In test mode, 0%Duty flickers around 59 degrees and 100%Duty flickers from about 190-30 and back, I've tried entering the numbers in Min & max degree but the gauge is all over the place, I can here the engine change note so I know the cams are moving.
I'm thinking maybe I have a setting wrong somewhere, any help would be appreciated.
Here is the current composite log and Tune.
Cheers, Mark.

I just posted in your meet and greet thread. It sounds like an interesting project and we certainly have people here who know the megasquirt very well. They may want some additional information regarding how the cam angles are measured by the OEM system and how they are controlled.

iirc

the min should be set to bring the angle back to 0.
the max should be added to the min, the max amount of angle to cam can rotate.

Have you set the Min and Max angle to 0 before preforming the test? When I did it, the test results would lead to bad values until they were set to 0 for the test.

I have the Min VVT Duty set to 0%. and the Max Duty set to 100%. Both Min & Max angle from the cam sensor are set to 0 Deg. in test mode for cam 1 I have the duty set to 0%, the gauge jumps around the 50 Deg area a lot and as I increase the duty % in test mode the gauge jumps up over 100 and back again so fast I can't read it. (see MSQ attachment for settings in previous thread). I've tried attaching a 10K resister to the + side of the sensor but it makes no change to the Composite log either way.
I've taken a composite log (see CSV attachment in previous thread) which looks OK to me, but I am very much the novice.
Is it possible R11 & R32 need adjusting on the MS3X circuit board? The Cam censors are VR sensors and I have removed the jumper on JP7 and adjusted the R11 & R32 7turns anti clock wise as instructed in the manual.
Hoping you can shed some light for me, I'm stuck scratching my head.
Cheers.

Is it possible the megasquart can see the tooth pattern but can't decipher it to send to the angle gauge?
if that was the case, is it feasible to cut say all but one tooth off the cam or replace one of the missing teeth?

I’ve pasted some info on the Barra motors VVT and they mention the pin lock position, could this have any bearing on what’s happing? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Barra 182 engine had a vane-type VCT phaser – produced by Aisin – on each camshaft that provided continual variable adjustment within a 60 degree range (10 degrees advanced or 50 degrees retarded from the initial pin lock position). At idle, the camshaft timing could be advanced by 10 degrees from the pin lock position for smoother running. On low throttle openings, however, the system could retard timing by as much as 50 degrees from the pin lock position to reduce fuel consumption and lower exhaust emissions via internal exhaust gas recirculation.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Any thoughts?
