Did the compound change when they reclassified to 200TW from 140TW? If so, do you have a link to any reviews or tests on the new compound. I have tried using google but I am not turning up any actual data, just internet conjecture.

This is from the horse's mouth...

The R1R passed the DOT NHTSA standardized testing UTQG to be reclassified as a 200 UTQG tire.

Overall tire performance has not changed with the reclassification.

Vehicle set up does not need to be altered to achieve the same overall tire performance with this reclassification.

Reasons for the reclassification:
- Demand from the autocross community due to the SCCA's updated rule set.
- Evaluation of market competitors and their UTQG rating

there you have it

Let's talk about these vs. RS3s.

For dual duty street/autox/track day perspective. Flip a coin?

If the compound hasn't changed then this has already been covered in the tire hierarchy thread. These are slower than an rs3 and wear quicker. They also don't take excessive heat very well. About the only thing they seem to be very good at is being a rain tire.

I'll have to re-read that, but i though that the thread addressed the 195, specifically.

You may be right but my understanding is that the 195 is the magic size that is notably faster all the way to the cords.

Iv'e used both. the r1r and the rs3 (v1 & V2). the rs3 has noticeable (but not much) more dry grip. The r1r destroys the rs3 in the rain. I also like the availability of the toyo. The rs3 is only from tire rack, and right now they are sold out of the 225/54r15's. they wont be available again for 2-3 months. this makes it annoying if you flat spot one in December... with the new pricing the R1R will be on my potential to buy list.

True, but i wouldn't run that size on a 9" wheel.

I'm trying to decide if its worth waiting on the RS3's shit-tastic availability and extra price to chase that last 5%.
