'00 FM II kit with link ECU on a '01?

I'm on the verge of buying a very nice second hand FM II turbo kit that has previously been on a '00 Miata.

I know the '01 Miata has the variable valve timing thingy, but could someone point out to me what parts of the turbo kit are incompatible?

The kit consists of the following;

- Garrett 2554
- Link piggyback ECU + O2 modifier + electronic boost control + BOV
- modified intake manifold+injectors + dual feed fuel rail.
- Intercooler
- FM 2.5" turbo exhaust. (one of the first)

It's a very early FM kit and if you need some specific details, I'll go ask them for you. :) (I'm at my work now and can't look up all the specifics, so that's why there's only basic info I know right there)

So basically I'd like to know what parts change in the 00->01 year that have an effect on the above kit.

Thanks Guys!

Unclear if the Link piggyback harness supplied by FM will plug-and-play with the 01+ wiring harness the way it does with the 99-00. It might, but then again it might not.

EGR connection is different, I believe. You might need to get an 00 EGR pipe.

Not sure what you're going to do with the 440s. The Link piggyback controls four aux injectors which mount in a modified intake manifold, it can't control the stock injectors. FM supplied 310 cc high-impedance injectors, I suppose you could replace those with 440s, but there's not a lot of point, the 310s + stock injectors have enough fuel for 250 rwhp, and you don't want to run more than that on the piggyback.

I dunno if they ever modified an 01+ intake manifold for this, so you probably need to swap to the 99-00 one. This probably means you need a some way to control the VICS too.

I had one of these kits for about 6 years (currently for sale in the classifieds).

Thanks Ian,

I was wrong about the 440's, pretty sure the kit includes the 310CC's.

The kit also comes with the modified intake. (for the 99-00 that is) Anyway, I contacted FM (sadly out of office) to also hear their story. :)

It probably is doable, the question is, how much does it cost me, lol.

As FM supplied them, the kit came with the modified lower half of the intake manifold. You had to swap on all of the extra bits (upper IM, VICS solenoid, EGR valve, throttle body, etc) off the one on your car, and then send the stock lower half back to FM as a core. So unless the guy selling the kit crashed his car and is parting it out, you'll probably need to source some extra IM parts from somewhere to retrofit it to the 2001 that you've mentioned. Fortunately, 99/00 IMs are pretty cheap these days (I bought one for $100 from FM salvage earlier this year).

Thanks Ian!
I'm not in hurry but hopefully FM will contact me next week. They'll probably know all the details too!
