93' LE, about BEGI-S
 

Hey now,

I've got 1993 LE with 88k miles on it.

I'm going to do a compression check and leak down this weekend. If I come up clean, I'll be ordering a BEGI-S kit.

My questions:

I've got a max $$ of $2200 shipped.

Stephanie suggests I get the base Begi-S and upgrade to stainless lines. This would get me just north of $2000.

What would you guys do next. Possible options:
1. Olderguy O2 clamp
2. used Bipes
3. Build my own megasquirt, but not have a wide band.
4. Wide band, but no engine control

How would you psend the $2200?

The cheapest way is to get Begi's AFPR, and just retard the timing. Then save money for MS, injectors and a wideband. Then sell the AFPR. Thats what I did. Does that Begi kit come with FMIC?

It is really up to you, what I would do is get the MS and WB first, get the car sorted out and running good, then save up money and get the kit after you have the management figured. The cheapest way to do it right is to do it only once.

I'd order the WB and build the MS as the first step. Get the MS in the car, get it running, and get comfortable operating MT and MLV. Then get the BEGi kit. To cut corners, consider not upgrading to SS lines. I like the SS lines and understand Steph's reasoning, but really average service life of the rubber lines is greater than 2 years. I'm pretty sure you can save up enough over 2 years to get the SS lines for when the rubber lines need to be changed out.

You will probably also need a 190hp fuel pump if your not gonna get the MS right away.

If you do the MS and WB first (this is what I am doing also) you won't spend any money twice. It will delay getting boost for a bit, depending on how long it will take to take you save up the extra $500 that you will be short, but you will have the MS and WB installed and have learned the basics of tuning it.

SS lines are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy cheaper if you get them made by local hydraulic shops to your specs. My friends oil feed cost him less than $20 localy, SS, with swiwel fittings, just get your own SS lines later. Buy smart and you will save in the long run.

oe fuel pump and 1.6 injectors probably won't be able to supply enough fuel. mine didn't.

Fuel pump not an issue with MS, injectors on the other hand, he'll need bigger regardless, only with MS he can get bigger injectors and still have his car idle vs FPR route.

Good feedback. I'll let you know where I end up. I doubt I have the patience to do the MS first and the turbo later. The issue is less having ready cash, and more figuring out how to sneak the spending by my CFO (wife).
