About to pull the trigger on this clutch...
 

So talk me out of this purchase if it is a bad idea. I am so pissed at my current clutch it was supposed to be rated for 225 ft/lbs of force but it is already slipping with my GReddy at about 6psi.

I have everything installed to crank up the boost and I am going to shoot for about 180 to 200 rwhp. I think this one should hold...

Please don't go on about puck style clutches and the driveability. I know there are trade-offs, and I have driven a 6 puck clutch and it wasn't bad at all to me.

So... Do you think this clutch will be ok for my power levels? I mean the auction says so, but I was looking for real world experience.

If it worked perfectly, it would probably be up to the power levels. but $140 clutches are $140 clutches. you get what you pay for. with the $300 act clutches, you get proper quality control manufacturing processes, OEM bearings, and a known and trusted product.

I went down the $160 ebay clutch route, and replaced my clutch again within a month. I am now going down the $250 clutch (spec) route and am finding that even they have quality issues, most will say they're a good brand, but mines now slipping with a 7psi greddy kit.

I know someone who had that clutch and it chattered like a bitch. Held his JRSC setup ok, but that was probably only 140whp.

It sounds like we have been down a similar road. I bought my last clutch off eBay and it is now slipping. I am probably going to go back to the well one more time, only because I have heard good reviews on the Gripforce clutches. I just hope I am not making a $160 mistake... My last one cost me $115

ive heard the xtd stuff (or maybe F1) is actually clutchnet stuffs.

I seem to recall running a stock replacement XTD clutch at one time... it lasted as long as any other oem clutch has in my car. Can't really tell you about grip... no boost.

I have decided to go ahead and do this one on my back in my garage. This will give me a good excuse to go ahead and buy an air compressor this weekend. I did my last cluch job on a lift at Trussville Mazda during our last tech day, so this will be the first one for me with the car on jack stands. [We don't have another club tech day until August 11th and I can't wait that long.]

I will probably put at least the front wheels on ramps.

Any advice about flat backing one?

jack the shit up as HIGH as you can....It's not hard on your back.....as you should know the hardest part is getting the bolts up around the firewall, and putting sensors and components off.....then when you have the drop the tranny and move it out of the way you'll want some room to be able to slide it out of the way....luckily i had a tranny jack available, so i was able to slowly lower it and push it under the rear diff while I replaced the clutch/flywheel...

Yeah... There are a couple of bolts that are a bitch to get at. The tranny is not nearly as heavy as I thought it was going to be. I just picked it up and took it over and set it into the washer and cleaned it off last time. I will just use my Craftsman aluminum jack to push it up into place.

Getting everything lined up and the bolts back in is the part I am least looking forward to.
