Any Idoit manuel for Drillin/Tappin Oil Drain?
I've seen many description about the proceedures, since I am not as handy as I want myself to be, its much better have an photo manuel proceedures for the job. I had a friend that has to take out its oil pan and that requires taking down the subframe etc.. hours of labour, which I would prefer to avoid.
Many Thanks! |

Take a look about halfway down the page. Pop VII has some good stuff in there. |
I thought with the greddy on a 1.6 no tapping was needed? Was that just wishful thinking?

Olderguy, what did you say???
How come this is the first time I'm hearing of this? Is there a downside? Who has a picture of this? What kind of fitting is it? |
Tapping the oil pan is very easy to do and a more efficient way of draining your oil.

The downside is only making sure that the hose goes downhill all the way. The hose is subjected to heat by the turbo, so I have a short section spliced in that is replaceable every once in awhile. Almost 30K miles on it so far. |
hey dont call Manuel an idiot.
|
Just make sure not to tap the oil pick up id you do it :(
|
^ yeah, that'd be bad..
So, just make sure the hose is constantly pointing downhill and no problems, eh? I'm guessing then it'd be a good idea to try to isolate this portion of the hose from heat? |

Olderguy's idea of isolating a small section of the 4' of hose is a good idea if you're going to use the OEM port. The area closest to the turbo tends to get brittle over time and I'd rather buy 12" of hose than 4'-5' of hose.
Hydraulic stores usually have the same high temp silicone that all the turbo vendors sell. Yes and don't tap the pickup tube like a dumbass! http://www.rev2red.com/images/cars/ownedance.gif |

I just did a replacement of my oil return line, and it cost me about 30 bucks and was a relative PITA to get everything good. If I had the time I think I'd tap the pan.
|
If you do it as shown on this page: http://bellsouthpwp.net/P/o/PopVII/G...0Part%20II.htm
Should not have any problems with deterioration. The pieces shown have been installed for 6 years so radiant turbo heat should not be a problem. Still have about 2/3d of the supplied hose hanging on the garage wall. |
pop why is it that i can never view your sites picturers. i am running walmart connect. but the pics never load properly for me i get a bunch of red x's evreytime even with no security protocols in place and trying MS Iexp while signed on, to my walmart connection. this has bothered me fo rsome time.

When I first got my kit I didn't know about the stock greddy return. I found out about a month later that you didn't have to tap the pan if you didn't want to, I went WHAT?! Then I found out how much better the pan tapping method is and was ok again, but that initial shock of finding out was funny.
|
okay, if i wanted to tap it with the pan on the car, what tools would you guys use? obviously there's no room for power tools. Pop, what kind of handle did you use for the drill bits?
