bad idle
 

I put in my 550cc injectors and my xede and now when I idles really bad. when I first start the car it will idle perfect for about a minute or two then it will slowly start to idle worse and worse then eventually die unless I keep it going with the gas. when I first start it the afr is around 14.5-14.7 but then when it idles bad the afr goes to far for my wideband to read so its above 17. I'm thinking it might be a vacuum leak of some kind but I sprayed carb cleaner all over the intake manifold and nothing happen. when its running I can hear a sort of loud leak of some kind, make a shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sound with your mouth and thats what it sounds like. So I'm starting to run out of ideas I've looked all around for a loose vacuum line and taking the intake manifold off twice to try to see if it wasn't sealed right. I'm up for any ideas.

vacuum leak. check ur hoses and your injector orings Also the intake manifold gasket is not reusable esp if it has been on there a long time. Esp if it has been on there alil while and seated might try anew one while u are at it but the lower injector oring sounds like a likely culprit.

Yea I bet its one of those, I think it might be the injector oring because i had to take them off my old stock injectors and put them on the new 550's, when you say oring you mean the plastic one that goes into the intake not the fuel rail. This weekend I'm going to get a new gasket and try to find some new plastic orings. thanks

Either 0-ring can go bad. Typically it is the one in the fuel rail that cracks first.

So do you mean there's another o-ring inside the fuel rail or the one on the end of the injector that goes in the fuel rail.

she means the ones in the rail split first but if that happens u have fuel spray all over. You hit the nail on the head i was refering to the lower plasticy oring wich seals the injector to the intake manifold. All newbs should be as smart as you would make my life alot easier. But meh then i would be bored :P

This is what has me confused, well not really confused but I'm not sure if its worth my time to take out all the injectors and replace the plastic o-rings because I don't see any gas spaying or smell it so it has to be that upper intake manifold gasket.

lol nah man get a stethscope or a stick and listen around the base of the injectors etc and basically u can pull em and if they dont fit on the injector, are ripped or dont fill the hole in the manifold all the way then it is suspect. Did u reuse ur intake manifold gasket? How long was it on before u pulled it the first time? Also like i said a stethscope can help u localize sounds 9 million times easier as well it should be part of your tools as its not that expensive and works on any motor, sticks work to but not as nicely.

Yea I did re-use it, that's the first time in 650000 miles its been off, but the only thing that makes me think it might not be that gasket is while the car was running I covered the intake manifold with carb cleaner, to see if I would see a jump in rpms. But I saw no change in rpms so this is why I'm kinda lost.

it could be on the bottom and yeah esp if it has been on the car for 65k miles change it they are not reusable. I tryed the same on mine and the gasket had been on about 100k miles still leaked like a mofo when i got it all back together. The gasket is cheap i was originally thinking u put a new one on drove it a few miles and then removed the intake agian, that would be iffy but liable to work. Also make sure to clean the mating surfaces well the old gasket has a treatment done to it to help it seal this naturally will leave a residue on the block and intake. I hope this helps u also its prob obvius i know but check ur manifold for cracks on the bottom etc to GL.

When your gasket was leaking, could you hear it and was it a loud noise because I can hear my leak and its pretty loud.

You can hear leaks around the injector too. Depending upon the severity, you can sometimes feel it with your hand. If it is leaking at the injector, you still need to fix it. It is a major PITA, but it needs to be fixed.

Yea on friday when I go to napa and get the gasket I'm going to see if they have the plastic injector orings the go into the block

So today I replace the upper intake manifold gasket and it did not change a thing, I wasnt able to find any injector o rings so I have to have a mazda dealer order them.Thats the only other thing I can think of that would make it not idle and have that leak sound.
