Is there a write up or guide on what you did and how I could repeat it? I just picked up a 99, I may want to fool around with this.

It's a deal, and a deal is a deal.

If I don't hear from him, I'll send it anyway.

No big deal.

I think this thread is starting to wander and the ECU tuning part should be separated, but I wanted to share this after reading this discussion

To be fair, it's one thing if corky says he will do it, it a whole another thing if Stephanie allows it.............

I'd like it known that the S6 is not the A/O.

I can send Keith seven heat shield configurations.

I do owe Keith a call (unsolicited...I think) regarding why and what was amiss.

I'd prefer just one.

The heat shield is decor, provided one stays off the race track.

Let's consider something a little different. How about this: I send your friend, Keith, an A/O cast exhaust manifold, downpipe, wastegate vent tube, comp outlet tubes, and the air horn compressor inlet. I'll even add (a different) heat shield.

The manifold should make more power. The downpipe is much better. The air intake is better.

No charge except shipping. He can keep/sell/trash/ whatever, the S6 stuff.

The exhaust manifold patterns are at the foundry and castings are several weeks out.

It would be my pleasure to do so

Now, what was that about "ocean front property?"

Corky
Hey Corky,

You should have Stephanie show you the last e-mail I sent her on this subject. I stated in that e-mail that if the kit was a finalized for sale kit you should have at least one template for a heat shield for that specific kit if I am not a beta tester of that kit, and that rather than marking up and sending back the heat shield I would accept some of that stick on heat shielding foil to protect my brake system components and water lines. Stephanie never replied to my last e-mail.

Throughout this process I have pointed out numerous problems and was told "It worked on other cars" or "we will send a new one that will work" I then received the same exact part identical to the one I said was flawed (examples are the bolt to hold the distribution block to the head, and the water mixing lower radiator hose neck). The water mixing connection would work great on a car without power steering... on a car with power steering the pulley will rub a hole in the water line... sounds exactly like the one car Stephanie admitted to blowing up! You understandably have little interest in making changes to this kit and troubleshooting problems since you no longer sell it.

In short, I like the power my kit makes, but hate the boost creep and exhaust leaks. The parts looked great, and many of them worked great... others not so much.

In conclusion, I don't hate you Corky, don't hate BEGi, and I am willing to be one of your beta testers for the Alpha/Omega kit. I can test out the new kit, and report my own results here and in a new build thread. I have lots of data logging capability and am willing and able to post virtual dyno and real dyno results with air fuel graphs and injector duty cycle at various boost levels.

Let me know if you are serious about this, and if in the mean time you could drop some stick on heat shielding foil in a box and send it my way it would be much appreciated

Keith

Oh, I've been away from here over a year... I know Jestmaty ( Jerry ) and Corky /and Family. My 99 was used as a mule, for the old Zoom box ( which never made it to production ). I was after the long time of two months offered an Xcede to be installed, and then replaced later with the Zoom. To me that spoke well of BEGi, and I went with the xcede. Five years later, I'm still running the Xcede and still making 220RWHP @ 9psi, with a 183,000 miles on a stock engine. I've DD it for the five years and set the recort @ the Texas Mile for a 1.8L Miata @ 142.3mph. This is with full stock car/ AC , full interior, 5spd and 3.91 gears. Now does BEGi have some problems...Short answer, Yes, but they will work with you, if you let them. At lest that's my expierence with them. AND NO I can not spell worth a crap. David

Car is VERY quick, but I've been getting some rides in 600,700, 1000 hp Mustangs lately, humbles my lil turbo car lol

Needs to go back for problems, but I'm waiting for two other cars to be finished at Begi first...I know at least one of the two cars remaining was dropped off a week before mine, roughly a week before Thanksgiving last year, and he is still waiting.

I have a car, can start it and drive around, I told Begi that I wanted the other customers get their car back before they go back and fix mine... again, it works, sort of, and I can drive it if I want to, the other guys need their cars back before mine goes back.

1 week after delivery, it threw a check engine light

Turbo leaks oil, smokes, not sure where this will go as they generally have like a 90 day warranty when I see em' on Ebay, mine is already a year old, but leaked on Nov 9th, the day I got it back. I DO know that warm up is critical as is shut down, probably even more so... if I've even been close to working the turbo, I let the car run 2 minutes at idle to help cool things down and keep oil circulating during that critical period.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zc_-CF0V4Cs

It was explained to me that some delicate wiring is inside my air filter, where the MAF meter was relocated, a proper harness needed to come from Japan, it'll be hooked up tightly by the Begi staff at a later date, didn't want me to be fiddling with it.

Several harsh rattles, squeaks, and rubbing that drive me bonkers. (As a side note, when I bought it 4 years ago, I fixed the rear brakes almost immediately as they rattled in their keeper hardware and it drove me insane!) I hate rattles!

This is a prototype....a development car, and as such, it was expected that issues like these would present themselves.

I'll say it again, expected...you hope that there wouldn't be any after a year, but still, was to be expected

But, it has issues directly due to this project and I've been assured by Begi that they will be fixed and addressed promptly.. I, ME, decided to delay the return of my car to them until after any and all other customers have their own cars back. Now is prime top-down weather and I want to enjoy as much of it as I can after so long.
so turbo leaking oil/smoking, wiring issues, and rattles.
are those the 3 issues, or are there others? you mention "other issues" but don't go into detail.
what was the check engine light for?
I know you told me they experienced check engine lights when they were working on the car too, delaying returning the car to you for a very long time

I've ridden in Jerry's car and it seems fine. He can tell you about any remaining issues; but go to the linked thread, picture 3, and find the MAF... There is in fact a MAF on this car. I don't think it's a problem but the placement is a little humorous to me.

Didn't want that to come off as beating up on Corky & staff, rather that this kit has made my car into the scooter that it should have been all along.

R&D, prototype, development car... whatever you want to call it, it has final touches that need to be addressed.

18, the CEL was a P0171, lean a/f ratio according to the autozone printout

I have the wideband, have had two independent dynos done on my car, one just last week, and saw a/f ratios around 11.8-12 at wide open, full to 6600rpms, pulls. I'm not concerned about code being a factor in my engine 'grenading' lol. Rather, it was the first 'cool' morning, in the low 40's*, and something in the warmup cycle didn't jive with the ecu and I was told to maybe expect it. A small tweak of the tune would keep that cel away.

Car is quick! So much more fun than it's ever been Hats off to the Begi staff for pulling this one off. Stock injectors, reflash ecu, exhaust/radiator/clutch are all that separates me from a bone stock NB... well except for the turbo...

I'm on the books to bring it back in the future to have the rattles, turbo, some finalizing of misc. wiring, and one or two small issues fixed.

Hope one of the other r&d guys jumps in, I think two of the four protos are with their owners, me being one of them.

Do you not have a wideband gauge in the car?

Wait, doesn't the MAF need to go before the turbo?

Jesus christ, is it INSIDE the air filter?

The maf can be post turbo, it is directly measuring air mass and not air volume so 30lbs of air at atm and 10psig will both produce the same reading even though the mass of air at 10psig is taking up a bunch less space.

What, its a piece of injection molded plastic with an obvious parting line that was never intended to be under boost pressure, what could possibly go wrong?

I like boost leaks. They're a good safety net and richen things up a little.
