blow off valve reroute questions, comments, gayness

So I have the begi kit with the reroute.

Will my shit spool up any faster if I vent to atmosphere?
Is it going to be loud in comparison?
is the blow off louder than the turbo whistle? (woo woo)
does your rerouted BOV whistle at idle like mine?

pdexta 03-13-2009 12:20 PM

It will be a little louder to atmosphere. I don't think the BOV should be whistling at idle. It may be leaking, the one that came with my kit was pretty much constantly blowing off. I replaced it with a greddy BOV and it seemed to help spool a bit, although I make some pretty extreme ricer noises now. Have you tested for boost leaks?

Intake Leak Pressure Tester

Works great.

That being said, BOVs are louder than a recirc. I doubt it will affect spool either way though. I was using a Blitz on my previous setup, so all I heard was turbo whistle, pssshhh, turbo whistle, pssshhh, and so on. It sounded like rushing air, that's it. Now I'm switching to an HKS SSQV, which is going to be loud as hell, or I can take the insert out, and it'll sound like rushing air too. But your recirc or BOV should be closed at idle.

leatherface24 03-13-2009 01:24 PM

FYI, with the HKS insert out, it still will whistle a bit. It did with mine.

RotorNutFD3S 03-13-2009 01:47 PM

True, but it's still less than normal. They also make an insert to completely kill the whistle.

Tial had a recirc bov in development like a year ago. That thing must be out by now.

A proper recirculating setup will spool up after each shift faster than a vent-to-atmosphere bov.

hustler, it's your car. if you want that shit to woosh when you come off throttle, then get a new BOV.

I'm getting kind of tired of the "semi-stealth" BEGi recirc and am thinking about getting an RFL myself... :)

I have no need to buy a new valve...the one I have now functions properly and I don't want/need queer sounds. The less people hear it, the less I have to worry about people stealing it.

I have one of those Bosch recirc valves, its plumbed backwards and is really quiet, it only vents for a tiny amount of time compared to opening normally.

Geee..anything in particular help get you thinking about a VTA? :D

I have the TurboXS RFL on mine... I have made countless people jump along side the road...I even got one guy to yell "asshole" at me because I scared him :giggle:
Not to mention all the compliments i've gotten at various track days and auto-x's.

Not like my car has any stealth qualities to it...
