Personally, I prefer the type that doesn't require you to take the line off to make adjustments. These are okay from what I've heard:

Ebay MBC

I'd rather pay the 50-100 dollars on a real one, but thats just me.

After struggling to control boost spike with my el-cheepo eBay MBC I splurged for the fancy TurboXS HPBC model. Honestly, I can't tell the difference. Even with a helper spring installed I'm still not seeing consistent boost.

why? It's the same thing, and 10% of the cost.

weitau 07-06-2007 12:46 AM

try a two stage MBC instead. see https://www.miataturbo.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=10282

Mimime 07-06-2007 06:13 AM

how much does an MBC spikes over the EBC?

Depends on your setup. I have a cheapie eBay MBC and I do not get boost spikes, period. My setup builds to 13psi and tapers off to around 10psi at redline. I'll be switching over to EBC via the MS eventually, but for now this works nicely.

Braineack 07-06-2007 07:44 AM

here's how the one i built worked:

Buy nothing from Vivid Racing. Overpriced by a HUGE margin.

On a 2 stage MBC, the first stage is controlled by a stiff ball/spring. This will get you into your target boost ball park. Then the 2nd stage lets you fine tune the boost by 1/2 psi.

I've been using one for two years, and never had a boost spike that could have killed my motor. Bought it from a guy on eBay, who still answers my support email today. ebay listing #300127883674

The "1 stage" MBC this thread refers to is not a bleeder type.
