brake cylinder heat
I have a greddy turbo in my miata but it is really close to the brake cylinder. I have the heat shield over the turbo but it still produces alot of heat, should i be worried?

insulate it the best you can.
|
+1 insulate it.
The last thing you want happening is your brakes failing because your reservoir melted. |
i melted mine when i had the shield off while testing, it sucks

I took apart a spark plug asbestos cover, and just used a peice of wire to hold it in place. It has worked very well for me. + I still had 7 more to use on varius water hoses etc, and anywhere else where it was needed.

Mmm asbestos... tastes like cancer! Yumm

i bought some self-adhesive heat tape off of summit racing and wrapped the brake lines, the proportioning valve, the reservoir, the two heater hoses (important, they get pretty hot), and my oil supply line where it gets close to the downpipe.
So far so good. That combined with the Bowser heat shield gave me a lot more peace of mind. P.S.: A little note about Summit Racing. I bought the $10 roll of heat tape from them. That is the only thing I've ever bought from them. Summit has lost so much money on me it's ridiculous, in the form of full-color catalogs mailed to my house once a week since my order. lol. |
Go to homedepot and get some of that aluminum reflective tape. Its in the plumbing section. You could also get some of this http://www.heatshieldproducts.com/colored_sleeve.php
cut it open and wrap the resivoir. Thats what I did and I havent had any issues. __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |
I currently have a combination of:
Raised the rear of the hood. Cut vent holes above the turbo. Ceramic coated downpipe. Fiberglass under heat tape wrapped around everything. ... and finally shit isn't melting. Good news though. You can melt through a brake master cylinder resivoir and not lose so much pressure you can't stop, after the first and second steam cloud of brake fluid chokes you. |
I bought a starter blanket at the autoparts store. It's make for small block V8s but if you cut it into strips you can use SS zip ties to hold it in place. It looks good and protects to 2000* supposedly.

I've always wanted one of these https://www.miataturbo.net/group-buys-member-discounts-23/turbo-blankets-5990/
