chinese gt2871 or s15bb t28 for begi kit
hi guys, im about to buy a used begi-s kit that has a busted chinese turbo. would you guys choose the chinese journal bearing gt2871 or a used s15 bb t28? currently have a td04, greddy emanage, 2.5 exhaust and 330cc injectors. plan is 8psi max.
|
Chinese 2871 sounds a bit overkill for 8psi. BB T28 sounds like it would be better for this PSI range. What are your plans for the car? Street/autox I'd do T28. Track toy? 2871.
but WTF do I know, I'm a supercharger guy. :giggle: |
OEM S15 bb turbo will not go wrong, it is effectively Garrett 2560
Chineses turbo depends on your luck. Some have great results while others failed badly. I have been these and done that. Do a search in this forum and you will know why. |
from reading up it seems the chinese ones are ok if they are journal bearing and have a restrictor. the car will see the occasional autoX which sadly aren't that common in Australia.
|
OEM Garrett vs shitty Chinese? Seems like a pretty easy choice to me.
|
Chinese is the logical choice of course:D

You could always try: ISIS T25/T28 Replacement Turbo
The Nissan guys really seem to like them :dunno: |

I think the above Isis qualifies as a churbo. Look up CXRacing on eBay, I think they sell them too. Do the research though, the flanges are NOT direct bolt-it for Garrett on some of the units
|
What year car? If it is a 1.6 I say 2554 or 2854 for low boost or what is it about what you have that you don't like?

im using a td04-9b which is a very small turbo. it spools very late at 4000rpm so not the greatest for the street. used garrett turbos are pretty cheap with early model sr20 t28 going for the $200 mark. the td04 is also very restrictive at 5500rpm the engine sounds horrible.

Such a small turbo should spool at 2000 rpm in 3rd. There must be something amiss with your wastegate or blow/recirc valve? IMO the td04-13t is a much better option than the 9b. Even at 7psi I have trouble with traction. |
unfortunately the td04-9b came in the kit and the flanges are different so i cant upgrade to the 13 or 15 varients. its easier just going to the garrett turbos which is what i am doing with this begi-s kit im about to buy.
maybe there is something wrong with my current setup, it wont boost past 5-6psi no matter how i set the boost controller. I have no bov too. it builds up boost at 4000rpm no matter what gear im in. |
My china turbo lasted less than 1000.. spend the money buy quality.
|
ive decided to rebuild the redtop sr20 t25g i've had lying around. the guy who was selling me the begi-s kit pulled out so i will make an adapter to mount the garrett to my td04 manifold.
|
I was unaware there were rebuild kits for the ball bearing Garrett turbos...
|
the red top sr20 t25g from the 180sx and s13 is journal bearing...i dont think they went to ball bearing till the very late s14 but definitely s15.
|
No worries. You had said "S15bb" in the original post, so I was somewhat confused. The journal bearing SR20 T25 series of turbos look like they are super easy to rebuild. And what is this "t25g" business? Another variant of the SR20?

I just bought one of these Nissan S15bb turbos brand new for my project. if you look around you can get one for for close to $750 (paid $730 shipped for mine) |
