Compression Test.
Is there anyway I can compression test with the motor out?
I don't see why not. Bolt up the starter, trans, flywheel, engine as an assembly to some kind of mount. Then apply 12v to the starter & solenoid with the gauge hooked up.
Sounds good. Thanks man. Does the cas or anything like that have to be hooked up?
nope, it just needs to crank over a few times.
Alright cool then. Any ideas on what I can use as a power source. A car battery stright to the starter and selenoid maybe?
:gay: car battery
only problem is you'll get a cold test, not a hot test. so the numbers will all be a little low. what you want to see though is all the numbers about the same. IE 165 155 160 155 appears low, but it's consistent so probably fine. If you get something like 100 150 160 155 you have a problem. |
lol so is that a yes or a no on the car battery lol
did the spark plugs have oil all over them? i thought you did a test?
and you blew oil everywhere...you have bad rings...possibly melted pistons/broken ringlands. since it's out, just take the head off (10-20mins) and look at the pistons up close. the cylinder walls should have cross hatching throughout, if you see vretical scoring, there's a problem there. or if you see a warped/melted/distorted piston you'll just be able to see it. see the pics i took and you can see what im talking about in my engine build thread. in the BS section. but if you are going to test again....plug the oil feed line....it may spray. |
Sorry, its a motor in a junk yard! lol
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. duh.
yes. so the battery...not a good idea, or good idea?

Yes. Ug say battery good. Ug say charge battery with charger and use battery. |
Hehe. Thats what I assumed lol Thanks. I hope it turns over. There is no vc on it, so im gonna have to take mine and my bolts : /
the battery is probably going to be the only thing with enough amps that you can get to the engine- unless they have a starter station that plugs into an outlet.
i've had good luck with one of those rechargable portable jump stations. I usually use it, sometimes I clamp one of the leads to a big red MAC starter button.
Actually...Does there even have to be a valve cover on the motor?
I don't think the valve cover affects it, other than might squirt a bit of oil out.
you can use a cordless drill as well with a 21 mm socket on it. works just fine.
If you have access to compressed air you might want to do a leakdown test. It would still be a cold test but anything under 10% should be O.K. if they were all about even.
