Compressor housing: oil issue?

My car is in the shop for some stuff and meanwhile they broke one of the turbo to manifold studs. Good thing _they_ did it _now_ and I don't drop my turbo half way down the track. Anyway, just before I replaced my air filter and compressor inlet piping and made this picture.
I am having some oil issue: I am loosing some down the compressor outlet tube (the outside is oily). I was thinking oil return line. What does this picture tell me? It is just this little and I did not clean it up. Restrictor needed or just regular blow by from the engine? Also, the compressor outlet tube seems loose in this pic, I just noticed this now. Or is it just the picture? |
Could also be the valve cover breather going back in the inlet..? Should I put a filter on that and cap the intake fitting?

I had a valve cover breather running back into my intake plumbing before the compressor inlet and did not see much (any) evidence of oil getting in that way. But I would still take a good look at that. If you see a lot of oil in the line connected to the valve cover then that could be it. Then you would want to rig a catch can.
If you think that is the problem just clean up all of the tubing and the compressor and run a breather filter; you can get them at Auto Zone on the ricer aisle. Then see if the fouling comes back again. |
Will check it out. I am thinking I may need a restrictor in the oil feed line. I need samples/pictures of that.

Another possibility is a bad PCV valve. If it is leaking you could be blowing a lot of air (and oil vapor) through the valve cover into the compressor inlet.

oil still shouldn't be spraying the outside of your housing if oil is making it's way through the breather line...
id look at the fittings on that block just in front. a LITTLE oil in the intake is normal. |

I also took it out again to see how it would hold up*. Picture attached. The -4 AN line is now restricted to roughly 0,08" which is 1,8mm. That is little over half than what it was. I will see how it goes from there. *) The rivet is squashed and should therefore seal perfectly. I replaced it with a new one. |

Restrictor helps lessen thee issue.
Also noticed the hex bolts of the oil return flange were not fully tight. |
