Couplers
Just bought a '90 with a Greddy kit. It looks like the rubber couplers should be replaced. One is held together with duct tape:eek: Should I order these from Greddy or is there a better option?

Thank you. It appears that only Hose Techniques carries the 60mm (2.36") 45 degree coupler that goes from the intake pipe to the turbine inlet. Can larger 2.5" coupler be used and then clamped securely to the pipe and inlet or a smaller 2.25" coupler be forced over the inlet and pipe? Also can a straight piece be used? Thanx!

In general, good quality silicone couplers won't be forced over a larger pipe. I can't see why you wouldn't be able to use one that was maybe an 1/8th bigger than the pipe... but you would definitely want T-bolt clamps as the worm types would not be strong enough to seal it. Somebody here may say DON'T DO IT, and get the right size, but I think you'll be OK.
I'm not a Greddy guy, but 2.36" is a pretty funky size. Are you sure about it... are you looking at ID or OD? |
Just quoting what Greddy tech support told me. That coupler is 60mm which works out to 2.36". I assumed that refered to ID.
|
Do you have a tape-measure? That's just such a funky size. Measure the ID for us.

I have all hose techniques couplers and they work just fine. They're cheap in comparison to many others but have held up just fine for me with tbolt clamps.
-Ok just redid my research, Hose Techniques aren't that much cheaper and if you take advantage of WOT's 10% discount ATPturbo would be a good way of doing things. |
The turbo inlet is indeed a wierd size. I measured mine a while back with dial calipers, and it came to 2.35" OD which is, as has been said, 60mm.
That being said, I'm planning to do some custom fabwork on the intake side, and I've bought a 2.25" to 2.5" coupler which I hope can be made to fit. I'll keep y'all posted. |
I will measure the couplers and flanges in the morning.
|
I'm using a 2.5" coupler and it clamps down fine. It's close enough.
Depending on the type of silicone a 2.25" might not strech out enough to fit over a 2.35" inlet, especially if it's reinforced silicone. |

Wideopentuning: Can't PM you until I have 3 more posts. braineak: I may try that. Let me see what Wideopentuning has to say. While under the hood I found a new problem. A water leak. One of the nipples has coroded through. Small hose that comes out of the bottom of the thermostat housing and connects to a nipple between the block and P/S pump. Going to be a pain to get to. |
Retail on the 2.5" 45 degree coupler is $38. How about $30 plus shipping?
|
Wideopentuning: I'll get back to you. I want to see if a straight piece will work. Will also need a 2" & 2 3/4" with T-bolts.
|
No problem. Just let me know when you decide what you need an I will put together a nice package deal for ya:)
