CXracing turbo kits
 

I've looked for a good review of CXracing's turbo kits for the 1.6L but none of them are very conclusive. A lot of people consider the kit to be an "Ebay kit" but the company seems to be a little more converned with quality. I would not be running more than 7psi on the kit. I would like feedback from someone who has used the kit or knows someone who has.

I dont understand CX racing. If you see the stuff that they're making in their cali shop you would think they're actually a pretty high end company, their RB26 manifolds dont look like full race but the welds are certainly above average. But then you see some of the shit turbo kits they sell on ebay.

ive seen quite a few (seemingly) high-quality parts come from them. i was impressed with a few of their manifolds and stuff... but i think they just jumped into the "higher" performance category to try to make a quick buck off the un-knowing... and, therefore out of their range of expertise, and there you have, the CXRACING turbo 'KITS'

Oh their intercoolers, T-bolt clamps, silicone couplers and IC tubing are actually pretty nice. You can see in my build thread where I cut open one of their IC end tanks and then re-welded it, and their welds are better than mine. Just that the IC is HEAVY the end tanks are 1/4" thick cast aluminum.

so, its like all their supporting mod parts are pretty good... until they try to make a "kit" lol

As a broad generalization, the CXR Miata turbo kit:

• Comes with a poor-quality manifold which will likely suffer cracking issues.
• A turbocharger of unknown origin and quality.
• A reasonable-looking set of piping and intercooler.
• Has no engine management of any kind.

All in all, I wouldn't bother, despite their admonition that "This is a Bolt on kit, from manifold to downpipe. Not like other kits offered, they are just parts and have not tested"


If you buy this, you're basically getting a reasonable-quality intercooler with a free turbocharger and manifold included. The latter will most likely be a source of frustration. I'd rather take my chances with parts that "have not tested."

I would bet the manifold is from the same Chinese companies that all the other ebay kits are.

I gather this from the look of their radiator. It looks like the exact same radiator as godspeed, mishimoto, etc. They just find a chinese distributor/manufacturer and buy the parts and sell cheap and rely on any sort of name they might of built in their other ventures to support their claims. (i just purchased their radiator last week and will see if its the same as mishimoto's etc)

Yes, it does seem that they are trying to become the new Mishimoto, but I have a feeling that they'll end up being another godspeed.

OP ignore the h8ters. you need this kit and a turbo timer, then you are good to go. 7psi is pussy shit though, turn it to 14 at least

You dont need any form of tunning either... just run this bitch at full boost, the miata ecu will handle it. The leaner the better.

I've Run both a Godspeed and a CX racing radiator. The CX racing one was most definitely the better quality of the two. Been reliably cooling my well put together 360 WHP track duty beast for a number of years now and I think it is quite adequate in terms of quality design and function for the price.

Having said that knowing what I know after 12 years of fiddling with making my own turbo Miata both faster and more reliable just looking at their turbo kit I would be surprised if the turbo manifold or turbo connections, gaskets etc would last a single track session on a car I was driving. I don’t trust china chargers either. 304 stainless is not really a fantasticly good material for a turbo manifold and there is a lot more to making one that can take the heat than the look of the welds.

idk if that statement was true or not... just going off what Leafy was saying... i wouldnt buy anything cx racing regardless of how "good" a part may look....
