Does the greddy/ begi s kit cause overheating problems on a stock miata?
 

Im about to eaither order a greddy or a begi kit, but after searching, I noticed alot of people seem to have overheating problems in the sumer. Is this common? Summer is coming up, so Im a little concerned on how my cars reliability will be in the summer. I dont have ac, so that will not be a problem, but how many of you guys have overheating problems?? I was just going to run the kit stock, with 5-6lbs of boost, running the stock cooling system. I also searched and noticed alot of people said their fmic was the reason for their high temp's, so I was thinking of not running a intercooler.
So do you guys with greddy/ begi kits have any overheating probs?

Base Greddy kit with Bipes and have never had a problem here in South Florida

base greddy kit is fine with no intercooler for 5 psi. no over heating, but go with the bage kit tho since is alot better

yeah, i did have an overheating issue immediately following my BEGi S install. at first i thought they were related, but now i think it was all coincidental.

i think my thermostat and 16 yr old radiator were barely hanging on.......the turbo was enough to send them over their limits.

if you have cooling system components in good condition it should be o.k.. but it's always a good idea to have a few bucks ready "just in case"

I was having problems after I added my FMIC, but also because I removed one of my cooling fans, so idling at the dragstrip was a problem. I would also overheat at the track after about 20minutes, but changing to more water and less coolant and redline waterwetter really did a good job of keeping the temps from spiraling out of control. I just installed a godspeed rad last weekend ($160 shipped check group buy) so we will see how that does this summer, I am still using only one cooling fan and there is no way to add another. But don't let cooling effect your decision to go fmic, the benefits far outweigh the air flow blockage, if you can run more than 5psi. To do it again though, I would have worked harder to keep both cooling fans.

If your heating system is healthy and you aren't tracking the car you'll be fine.

The real question you should be asking is why you'd consider a greddy kit, when the BEGI-S is a much better setup?

stock miatas can overheat. adding a greddy or s kit shouldn't. if your cooling system is shitty, then yes. if maintained, then no.

most people have issues when they throw a large intercooler in front of the a/c condenser, in front of the radiator...easy fixes for that as well.

Mine only overheated after a hard session at the road course with lots of drafting. Stock cooling system.
