Downpipe How-To

1 Attachment(s)
Top down weather is at a close so I thought I would put my turbo on. All is going well until I got to the downpipe. How do I get that damn thing off?? I assume it may just be as simple as a swivel but not sure. Have been shooting PB blaster at it all day so I hope once I figure this out I can get bolts out with rachet. Also going to feed the turbo with a sandwich plate through a cooler, will this work ok?? Bought it used, Greddy manifold, downpipe, intercooler and non greddy charger. Thanks for the help on this one. Any other advise is greatly appreciated.....

PB Blaster is worthless. Use lemon juice as a substitute. Trust me dude.

I've always had great luck with pb blaster idk... spray that bitch and use a breaker bar.... or put a pipe over your ratchet, that's what i do

your pic is way to damn small if you have a 1.6 you are silly to not use the oil port on the hotside of your motor. As for the downpipe grab a hammer and shock laod the bolt it could breack it free alot easier

If worst comes to worst, run the car for 5 or 10 minutes to get some heat into the turbine housing to expand it ever so slightly. The bolts should come out easier. Just be careful not to burn yourself, wear some gloves or something.

I had a bolt seized in mine before and just wouldn't budge. A little heat did the trick. Again, if you need to do this be careful not to burn yourself, take precautions, work slowly and deliberately.

Im not sure if that is a picture of a postage stamp, or a picture of a matchbox car. Why do I have to squit to see anything, and why, when I do squint, does the picture not even come close to illustrating what might be a downpipe connection?

1. Because the picture is small.
2. Because it isn't.

OP, Hit the gym.

I think he's talking about removing the OEM downpipe from the cat inlet...I think. How difficult this is depends on where he lives and how often the car has done winters. Obviously we'll need some clarification on WTF he's really taking about before anyone can really help.

People who live in the rust belt end up developing amazing rust busting skills that can't even be comprehended by Cali/Florida/Texas types. Its like Superman living under a yellow sun. I've gotten pretty good at it over the years, but I still can't get the PPF bolds out of my diff case.

You've finally explained the thing that I've been trying to express to people around here for years. I've never understood why all of my friends are fucking pussies when it comes to removing bolts that were stuck.:giggle:

Wow, I've lived in Ohio all of my life... I never even considered how nice it would be to work on a car that wasn't 100% rust...

Must be pure sex...

As far as the downpipe-to-cat bolts go:

It's not like you wanted to keep the stock downpipe anyways...

Cut that damn thing off.......I like that..LOL..!!! Thanks for everyones input on the car. Yes it is a 93 with 1.6...sorry for the bit of confusion. Will post better pics as the project moves forward....

Lemon juice won't work. Try peanut butter.

Stop being such a pussy and just use a breaker bar with a pipe on the end.

Also, Kroil is the best unruster juice. Even better than penut buttr

turotufas 10-28-2010 10:02 PM

I was being facetious with that lemon juice.
