Fabricating or modifying a Mazdaspeed tubular downpipe.
 

So anywayz, as most people I am in the process of installing a Mazdaspeed Turbo Kit on my 99 10th Anniversary. Well what I know so far has been totally helpful, but I am aware that the downpipe is incompatible with the 99-2005 midpipes.

I know a guy who has a downpipe for sale minus the cat. How difficult is it to modify the downpipe to fit with the 99-2005 midpipes? Is it just a matter of flange rotation or shortening. I've talked to BEGI and if it comes down to it, they can fabricate me a custom downpipe that is right on...for a little for money that is :)

2nd, does anybody know what fittings I can use on the IHI Turbo. From the factory they use banjo fittings and i'll prolly just use barbed fittings (like the BEGI S series) to run the water lines and oil lines. If the threads are the same as the Garrett Turbos, then I shouldn't have much trouble there. Thanks!

the triangle flange off the the turbo turn-down will bold right up to 99-05 downpipes, at a bare minimum, 99-00 downpipes. also, I should put my setup in my sig. Im running MSM stuff on my 2000. you can use your stock downpipe until you want to upgrade, I just had my MSM downpipe cut and had a stainless 2.5 back with no cat, for 100 bucks at a muffler shop. though, i brought in my own 4 foot section of 2.5 stainless that bought for ten bucks in the scrap section of metal supply store. some of my pipes are mild, but only for the easy bends around the diff.

oh, and for the fitting, I had AbeFM hook me up and make custom banjo fittings, But since he probably wont do it again for free, just get the banjo bolts from the dealer. The guy I bought setup from gave me the banjo fittings, just not the bolts, and I believe auto zone carries the fittings, the good thing is you can use SAE banjo fittings on your metric bolts as long as its close and you use good crush washers, I used a couple 'not perfect' banjo's and they work just fine with copper washers. never had a leak.

Dude are you serious?! The factory 99-2000 downpipe will bolt right up? Well what about clearance issues, will it all work together? MSM Turbo, downpipe,midpipe, exhaust.

I don't know about that. But If you are trying to use your stock exhaust, even if they don't bolt up. Just go to a getto muffler shop and bargen with them. They will make it work cheap. I's say <$45.

The triangle off the outlet gets like 2mm away from the trans-bell housing, but the exhaust brace still bolts up. tho Todd is right, you shouldn't really use your factory exhaust, maybe the DP but if you do, at least replace the factory stuff with glasspacks or something.
and about using all the msm stuff, i dont see why it wouldnt work, but i couldnt tell you because ive never tried.

Looks like the driverside headlight on the 99-2000 is incompatible with the driverside charge pipe, as the back of the headlight covers the hole that is cut in the chassis...

my sister has an msm midpipe and rb muffler for sale if you want it.

Sorry bout the banjo's I think I still needed them for my upgraded turbo on my car, most likely.

Did you actually use the stock IC you got from me, or get an E to the Bay one? I really like the mishimoto IC personally, better product and looks better.

If you use a complete MSM exhaust system from turbo to tailpipe, it'll work.
