Stock 1.6 rear end gone bye bye after 3 years of Greddy turbo power. I've had the Torsen replacement parts sitting in storage since I first bolted on the kit. :bigtu:

I've got the 1.6 vlsd and hope it will last like yours did. The original clutch keeps me to launches below 3k rpm :/

So... did it break or what? What were the symptoms prior to breaking?

where did you get your 1.8 rear end?

Also, why did you wait 3 years to put on the lsd rear?

I've been hearing some random squeaking and grinding noises coming from somewhere in the drivetrain for a couple of weeks now. Hard to say if it was the diff giving out or not. When it went, it went. I was launching onto the freeway from an onramp light and it just let go with a big grinding kapow. There was no doubt in my mind about what happened.

I picked up the rear end a few years back from a junk yard in Long Beach. I had a contact in the junking business at the time and he told me they had a '96 in one of their customer's yards. I checked out the VIN at a local dealership and they told me it was Torsen equipped, so I picked up the entire third member and axels. I got the driveshaft from another junk yard in Riverside. Cost me around $300 for everything.

Unfortunately, I found out the axels were wasted so I couldn't install anything at the time. I never got around to finding another set of axels before I moved, so everything went into storage.

Torsen installed, but finding a set of axels for it locally was truly a bitch. I ended up with a set of rebuilt axels from a '96 for a bit less than the prices I've seen on Ebay after shipping though.

Just to confirm though Sam, those grinding noises from my drivetrain were most likely my old differential giving up the ghost. Smooth as silk with the new rear installed.
