Finally installed 1.8 injectors
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know....by bad. Anyways, I'm finally getting ready to change the clutch and increase the boost up to 8psi again and figured I'd better install better injectors than the 1.6 original ones. Did so without a hitch EXCEPT.....the car now stumbles at idle. It acts like a vacuum leak where the idle will bounce up and down from 900 down to 200 rpm and then finally settle in at around 800rpm.
I've checked and double checked the vacuum lines I had off to do the install and thats just the larger ones attached to the plenum. Do I need to re-adjust the BEGI with new larger injectors or still search for a vacuum leak? |
Check the seals on the injectors. Could have developed a vacuum leak there.

Did you have them cleaned before you installed them? Would this have anything to do with the spacers?
A mechanic at my shop screwed up some O-rings on a fuel injector and it caused the cylinder to lose compression. The car ran really rough. I would check all the possible seals on those injectors. |

Ok, and how do I do that? These are injectors that I bought from a guy on e-bay who supposedly cleaned and tested them. Except for plastic bodies of the injectors everything looked new. The car does really run smooth otherwise. Oh, and if I pull off one of the smaller vacuum lines, the BOV or fuel regulators, the idle smooths out. |
my bet is base fuel pressure needs to be adjusted. Is your FPR the good one wich allows you to do that. If not then you will need to adjust your AFM to compensate for the extra fuel.

"Thnx Magna for the double post note" |
I just now noticed that the tail pipe is throwing out black shit too! Must be running hog rich!
Thanks for the input guys. I'll readjust the BEGI and see what happens. |
Whew! Everything is all right with my world now, LOL! I don't know how the BEGI got that far off! The base pressure was all the way up to 58psi! I readjusted down to 48psi and took it for a road trip while the pressure gauge was hooked up to be sure the BEGI was functioning properly. It did.... a full 98psi at 8psi but the clutch started slipping again up there :-(
Time to order a clutch! |

What BEGi FMU do you have?
If you are adjusting base fuel pressure with the 2025, it's way out of adjustment. |
you should idle at 35psi, and when the vacuum line is remove from it, adjust for about 50-55psi.
