Default Spec Miata Exhaust a Step Up?

I am running a Cartech IHI setup on a 1.6. It uses the stock mid-pipe/cat/cat-back. I have been offered a Spec Miata test pipe/cat-back. It's stainless and looks well made, I do not know the brand. I plan a Tony DP but Tony needs my DP as a pattern. I need the car at the moment so that's a winter project. Does anyone have experience with Spec pipes, it's got to be an improvement?

IIRC, the size limit on the spec miata is 2.25"

it would be a step up, simply becuase its just a pipe, no muffler of any sorts.

Oh really... just piping? Good weight reduction too

Yes. There is no 100% spec exhaust for spec miata. Which one in paticular? I remember in the early days Tony Rivera used to just cut the pipe right in front of the muffler and keep the cat in there. That technically was a "spec miata" exhaust at the time.

If it's stainless AND it looks good it's likely an Alara exhaust. Next up is the JD special and the Springfield Dyno exhaust. They don't look as good. The Mazdaspeed brand Spec Miata exhaust (pictured above) is the ugliest.

FWIW, they're all loud. Very loud. They run without a cat and use a resonator as a muffler.

Which is funny because most tracks these days have sound restrictions, which results in tacked on supertrapps at the end of their fancy "tuned for years on a dyno" ubar spec miata exhaust.

Lot's of great into as usual. But it looks like the pipe is not a Spec pipe or at least not as extreme as the ones above. I know it came of a Spec racer and was replaced to a Springfield Dyno setup. It has a muffler. I will try and get a picture tonight and post it.

+1

Just the other day, I was following my friends SM in my Miata, and I could hear his loud *** exhaust over mine half the time. It shouldn't be too loud with a turbo though.
