first pic from my greddy setup

car is still 700km away from me... :(
the mechanic is still checking everything to make sure the FM oil lines have no leaks, etç, and the camera he used is shite!
awyay, here it goes.
still missing the turbo tony DP and free flow cat which are in transit and the FM heatshield. The red thing is the MSD, and the red button on the firewall left side of the engine is the switch to adjust how much timing per pound of boost. I'll post better pics and also the interior ones, with the AEM gauges as soon as I pic up the car next week.

Your going to get to really hate that black cross over tube after a while....and the location of the air filter (knocking)....and the vent tube thats going back to the intake...but your gonna really really love the BOOOOssstt !!!
Nice job :)

Yesss another Greddy dude. Looks like a good install. Are you still using stock exhaust? A friend of mine has the same MSD with that Adj knob on his miata, but he mounted it inside that car which is pretty cool. Now you just need an intercooler set up.

Mike, stock is not OEM, but a very popular brand around here, called larini. check it out at www.larinisystems.com. They make exhausts for Lamborghinis and Ferraris... and it is more free flow than a stock, but not quite as good as a turbo. I bought it before thinking going turbo.

Fergus, the stock plastic tube has a very reduced life expectancy. :) just need to get someone to make the pipes around here... which is proving to be a challenge. As for the filter location, what do you mean? I plan to cut the firewall, and install a turn signal intake to allow more air...
As for the vent tupe from the cam cover to the intake: I asked, and IIRC people here said it was ok to vent it to the intake. would be better to use a oil catch tank, but this would sufice...?

mike_671 06-01-2008 05:51 AM

My badd i didnt read your sig.

Fergus 06-01-2008 05:51 AM

Yeah, use a catch can as you'll get some oil in the pipes after a while.

mx5dude69 06-01-2008 07:59 AM

and by "and the location of the air filter (knocking)...." you mean the hot air it gets there?

kotomile 06-01-2008 10:49 AM

Congrats, the oil line is taking one helluva path to feed the turbo, other than that install looks neat. You'll find yourself wanting more in no time. ;)

No, it will start rattling when your driving. Knocking off the body of the engine bay & firewall etc.
Here's what I did with mine.....

That was my last upgrade a few months ago, it made a big difference and I got to put back on the engine strut bar which I didn't want to remove in the first place. The cross over tube is 3" BTW and I got all my parts from WOT (da man :bowrofl:).
I've some plans made to go up to 8 or 10PSI this summer. I also want to repaint the car (do it myself as always) but I'm thinking of getting a wide body kit with bumpers etc. I have a set of 17" 5 spoke Mazda alloys to go on right now and also maybe getting spacers.

here's the dyno, stock vs 4/5psi. (wastegate is not fully tightened...)

seems to be something wrong with the AEM wideband, as he told me it shows 14.7 at idle, them drops to 10, and doesnt show any other value...
but they used their own lambda sensor in the exhaust tip, and he told me it was showing 12.5 across the board from full boost to the end... from what i have read, 12.5 is the optimal value, but i should be seeing richer values, shouldnt I?
the only thing i can think of, is the fact that my maps are a bit leaner than the earlier 1.6...
i'm waiting to install the DP, and move the wideband near the cat. see if that sorts it...

It kinda sounds like whatever was reading the WB (I presume the readings weren't taken from the gauge?) was treating it as a narrowband.

mike_671 06-06-2008 11:20 PM

So how much HP did you make? I couldn't see in the pic, its blurry.

If you click on it twice it enlarges. :)
140hp Max Power
181NM Max Torque

will get another run with the DP and Free flow cat and IC, should see a couple more ponies...

i wasnt there, but he said when looking at the WB, only showed 10 and never changed the value on the display.
but today he told me he took the WB off the stock greddy DP and placed it inside the rear box, (not sure how far inside) and started to throw some more accurate numbers, like 12.5 under boost, which means that if measured before the cat I should see a bit richer. 12.0 maybe, which would be great from all i have read around here. general consensus seems to say that 11.5 is too rich anyway...

kotomile 06-07-2008 10:30 AM

<-- currently getting 10.0:1 AFRs in cruise..

but that's another story.
