fmic kit

ok as this last thread was closed prematurely i love it. no im not ripping off stripes piping kit which is all he sells. im trying to see if anyone would be interested in purchasing a full kit. im not setting up any group buy or anything like that. im just trying to see if there would be any interest in a full kit including intercooler. with maybe a larger intercooler and a flange (optional) for a greddy type bov. wow i love how people jump to conclusions and at the same time i apologize if some how i made it seem im tryin to sell anything . im not.

How about you get your setup done and post pics. If people ride you about it then maybe thing about moving forward. You are gonna have a hell of a time touching Stripes kit for the money though...

kotomile 08-30-2007 01:51 AM

FWIW, I like Stripes kit, but since I'm going to:

1. run a longer intercooler
2. not have to worry about PS and AC
3. clock my turbo

I do wish there was a kit for that on the market. Then again, there are people with many different needs for IC kits out there and there can't be a separate kit for every set of options. $0.02

it's easy to make your own if you think outside the box.

+2 what I would have done if I knew what I know now.

zoom2zoom 08-30-2007 03:18 AM

I have close to 15 feet of various ic pipes, mostly from junk yards. I did my own setup on my first Miata, too easy.

with all the various pics and writeups on doing a kit...hell even copying stripe's kit....one hardly has to think outside the box.

I'm not sure what the point is. You can probably easily run 200+whp with Stripes setup and the greddy kit turbo and he tells you on his page where and what to get to complete the the thing and it all ends up costing around $400 or so.

If you really need a larger intercooler than the Stripes setup supports you are probably looking to run a lot more horsepower than most people on here and most people who do that go DIY and get a different turbo altogether.

All in all I see people who are going for that much horsepower doing custom setups themselves rather than buying a kit.

The other thing is that Stripes used to provide the whole kit, but obviously he found the economics worked better if he just did the piping and provided the links to the various places to get the other pieces.

reckless_abandon 08-30-2007 11:11 AM

is stripes still producing his kit? because my intercooler setup is the most amature shit i've ever seen, and i would like to upgrade.

Braineack 08-30-2007 11:15 AM

he still sells the pipes

if you want a bigger intercooler, buy the same thing in a 24x12x3 size and cut his pipes a few inches shorter on each size.

Harv 08-30-2007 11:28 AM

IMO there is probably no reason to go much bigger. I'm running at about 5psi right now and the IC is working so well that the intake manifold pipe is just warm even after back to back runs autocrossing. I'm sure this thing can handle a hell of a lot more boost.

The other thing I would wonder is how much a wider IC will block the radiator. Right now I have no issues with cooling (though I still need to put the plastic shroud back on underneath).

drftem 08-30-2007 01:14 PM

well im planning on running only about 12lbs boost. im not concerned about blocking the radiator as i have a koyo and it keeps it pretty danm cold. i would just do the larger intercooler and stripes kit but i have a greddy bov and his piping kit doesnt support that i would still have to have it cut and the flange welded in. so im just gunna see if i can get this setup done today and i will have pics of it for you guys.

So basically you are doing a whole custom setup because you don't want to get a different BOV? I'm not sure what the Greddy BOV requires, but there is an outlet on the Stripes pipes on the intake manifold pipe for a BOV.

zoom2zoom 08-30-2007 03:57 PM

my next setup will be a V-mount with a Civic triple core race radiator, great route to go if you want to keep your a/c, p/s, and cruise.

Stripes 08-30-2007 06:14 PM

Yup, I'm still selling my kit. I'm just taking a short break while I recover from a surgery.

As far as the BOV is concerned, I can weld any type flange on my pipes. All you have to do is send my your flange and I can weld it on for an additional 10 bucks.

well like i said im not tryin to steel your design. im tryin to make something with a larger i tercooler and available as a kit if the people making my setup wanna sell a kit. i was just looking to see if there was any interest.
