So i got my greddy kit up and running (good) finally.....and it's HOT, real hot, probably no hotter than any of the other greddy kitted miatas but i just feel that it's waaaay to hot under the hood.....so other than the NACA ducts, what are my options as far as vented hoods go, and how bad of an idea is riding around with the hood popped?

hood poped = sail could = wee could= bang smash oh crap my car. TSI's are nice fm and go miata sell vented hoods for 550 or so bucks.

I've been thinking over the same thing. I will probably vent my hood, I did this on my eclipse GSX. When I do it I will drop some pics.

i wish they made a version of the scoot hood for the miata...i would buy it in a heartbeat, it has great vents and looks awesome... plus it give the miata a rx-7 look to it

I plan on doing the old hot rodder hood lift trick. I don't want to mess with my nice aluminum hood.

Why don't you guys just ceramic coat your downpipe.....I did this and it brought all my underhood temps down. Probably near NA level. No more pizza oven.

also, circuit hero has a hood lift kit for cheap or you can make your own, this flows alot of hot air out, especially with a naca or tsi, looks sweet too.

I would put louvers in my hood, but I don't feel like risking my paintjob for it. I have painted stripes on my car.

I'm not, they're a ghost blue pearl stripe. The effect is great, a lot of people ask me what happened to my paint and then they step closer and see the stripes... then walk around the car and watch them disappear from different angles.

My car was also suffering from high underhood temps so I bought a spair hood and cut some openings in it and it seems to do the trick.I track the car and I was just having to many things melting and failing With the new hood it stays much cooler under their, and it wasnt 500+ dollars

Hood spacers would not help. If you prop up the back of the hood, you're just opening it up to a high-pressure zone at the base of the windshield (basically, the second highest pressure zone on the car aside from the nose); no air is going to escape/vent out at that point. You want the air to flow out the back of the engine bay and through the tranny tunnel.
