got bored, added boost

yea, so i was like hmm, my car is ok, butttt,, it could be better
i dropped in a hallman boost controller (hallman pro rx kit)
i got it used for 20 dollars its around 100 with shipping on the hallman site
friend of mine didnt know what it was worth, so i threw him a low ball and he bit

then i bought some green top supra injectors

when i got everything in hand, i cleaned it all up
and threw them in today

after fiddling with the boost controller, i have a stable 10psi with 11.5 to 12.1 a/f

the thing moves like a bat out of hell, i mean, theres no words for it
200hp in a miata is effin nuts

rear end dips, front end lifts, and ur off

i love it, i now need a to look for a torsen, im sure this rear end wont last
along with a new bottom end so i can build it,
and a hard top, and some lowering springs, and some, well, u guys know, the list just never ends :vash:

nice. gonna be out and about tomorrow night? i'll be picking my car back up from having my torsen swapped in and will in all likelihood be headed to the dunkin donuts on grafton st. should be some other interesting cars out, if last weekend serves as any indicator. :-)

patsmx5 04-24-2008 10:50 PM

Nice. Vids or ban, you know the rules.

cardriverx 04-24-2008 11:11 PM

Glad to see your finally pushing a good amount of boost!

The diff will blow, altho mine lasted like 5 months haha. Its a scary feeling when it does blow...

spike 04-24-2008 11:17 PM

If you think 10 psi is fast, you should try 15 psi.

im almost dead even with them now,, well, almost :vash:

Zabac 04-24-2008 11:47 PM

urgaynknowit 04-24-2008 11:54 PM

WOW.......,,

lol. the next time i get bored, ill get right on that

Fireindc 04-25-2008 02:51 AM

Are you running a bipes? How are you fueling, im guessing stock vortec fmu? What disk? Sounds like its running nice. +1 on vids, dont forget a clip pointing on the speedo/tach.

m2cupcar 04-25-2008 09:05 AM

You might get an open 1.8 driveline and swap it now why you can still sell your 1.6 driveline.

Just dont floor it in 1st in a parking garage with that sticky concrete. Thats how I blew mine.

Dont do what I did, sell your 1.6l driveline while its worth something. I got my 1.8l open swap for $400, its not expensive for the opens.

urgaynknowit 04-25-2008 01:02 PM

whats the difference between open and torsen? wouldnt i want to just do it once and do it right

BenR 04-25-2008 01:06 PM

about $400-$600

Besides the price, the Torsen is a TORque SENsing (limited-slip) diff.

The 1.8 open is a good starter if you can't splurge for the Torsen, at least you wouldn't need to worry about blowing your diff.

Price wise or how they function? Price wise is about $500, function wise the torsen is a type of limited slip diff, an open is just that, open. AkA one tire fire... ;)

urgaynknowit 04-25-2008 01:44 PM

will my car be slower with an open 1.8? and can i upgrade the open 1.8 to a torsen?

urgaynknowit 04-25-2008 01:46 PM

if i can get the 1.6 lsd one to light both tires up, i can only imagine what it will do to one tire lol

Get the torsen or the Rx-7 clutch type. Do a quick search its a huge topic. Are you running a MS or AFPR?

icantthink4155 04-25-2008 03:35 PM

...I remember seeing a post in this thread about vids or ban...:giggle:

Yes you can upgrade it, all you need is the torsen diff. A rx7 clutch type would work too.

urgaynknowit 04-26-2008 08:33 PM

ive been working non stop this week, im saving for a winter car,
i will have vids, the latest, on sunday, ill start a new thread when i do so,
thanx for all your support and knowledge, i couldnt have reached this point without all of you

ps.... no homo

Newbsauce 04-26-2008 08:55 PM

If you don't have MS .. I recommend it. The 305s and the AFPR are a bad combination. Scott and I learned the hard way.

what happened? i need details

devin mac 04-26-2008 09:20 PM

hey, you disapeared last night, man. i was like, "where'd he go?"

in any case, car looks good, man. and yes, get on the megasquirt train, even if you need to lie cheat and steal to get it. best thing you'll do for yourself. :-)

Mach929 04-26-2008 10:25 PM

+1 on megasquirt and torsen. sometimes you can be a cheap ass but a lot of the time you regret it when you need to do it a second time to get it right. so get a torsen before you blow your 1.6. I sold my 1.6 vsld setup for $250.

urgaynknowit 04-27-2008 10:53 AM

a friend of mine sell miata parts, so i am not in dire need of a torsen,
and if i blow my motor, hes got at least 11 more for me

buttttttttttt my vlsd is now making funny noises, kinda like when you step on old wood,
and it creaks? when i go slowly from a stop, it makes all kinds of funky noises, its on its way out
so im now saving for parts lol

yea, i was tired from work, and had a 15 hour shift ahead of me, so i went home to sleep

i want to run suspension like yours, next time we see each other, i need a ride in it
to see how it performs, is it stiff? or bouncy? or something else?

i might be going the emanage route, so under boost, its stock,
and in boost, ill have control,

i don't want to mess with idle controls or anything like that, this car is my primary mode of transportation at the moment, so it wouldn't be good if i woke up one morning, and since its new england, temp dropped 25 degrees over night and we got snow, and car wont start for some odd reason,
i need to know that when i turn the key, it will start, with no effort on my part

ive been on the fence for about a month now between emanage ultimate, and ms pnp
ill see how the summer goes, and ill deliberate, im also looking into buying a small pickup for the winter, if i do that, ill go the mspnp route

oh an newbsauce, please tell me what happend with the 305's and afpr

FHS 04-27-2008 01:10 PM

Yeah, sounds like your rearend is going out. Too bad. I babied my stocker for almost 3 years. Gave me plenty of time to source some reaaaaaaally cheap parts for my swap. When my rear-end finally did go though, it was spectacular!

Vashthestampede 04-27-2008 01:21 PM

I sold my 1.6 rear, axles, and driveshaft on ebay. I then used that money toward getting the torsen, 1.8 axles and driveshaft. I never even drove the car being turbo'd with the 1.6 rear. I put all that shit in at the same time.

I've been thinking about the MS as well, but my emanage has yet to let me down and makes plenty of power for me as is. I too would need my Envoy back on the road or another vehicle before I traded for the MS.

Vash-

+1

I know it's almost sacrilage to speak against standalones, especially MS, but I'm not ready to trade in my off-boost performance/boost tuning issues for boost performance/off-boost tuning issues on my daily driver. Not that the 2 are mutually exclusive but I know it takes a bit of tuning to get a standalone to perform like the stock ECU off-boost. Maybe a little, maybe a lot. I'm not ready to tackle that learning curve to find out ATM.

If I were starting from scratch, I'd probably invest in the MS. So yup, when my Miata is no longer my daily driver, I'll make the switch.

rappadan 04-27-2008 09:46 PM

hey Gay, bandaids arent a solution. Get MEgasquirt. Its the solution. so much adjustment. So easy to deal with. Almost everyone on here runs it. Everyone has it down or could help you in some way or another. You can run a real boost controller (ebc) make custom timing maps, spark maps, adjust your cold start settings, and more shit i dint know about........ JUST DOOO IT!!! its safer!
