First quirks!!! "If you gonna fail, fail fast"

Started seeing some oil around the oil filler cap. The dipstick shows oil being close to Full.
Oil pressure gauge (pre '94) shows between 50-60 while boosting.

Not sure what to attribute this to:

1. Too much oil - close to Full on dipstick
2. bad PCV (valvle does rattle when shaken, but not very laudly).
3. Breather filter is restrictive
(I have removed the breether line and installed a self rigged breether filter (made from a paper fuel filter) to move the air filter towards the front. So my setup is now Turbo -> AFM -> Filter. I basically removed the GReddy U pipe. It is possible that this filter is somewhat restrictive on the breether. )

Does this sound like something that can be cured by an oil catch can? Could someone please post some pictures of their catch can setup?

Pull the pcv valve....can you blow through it on both ends? if so replace it. Make sure it seals when you blow into it. That's you're culprit then and dont worry about it.



I don't feel like bothering with the whole breather filter debate today.

Sound like PCV needs replacing then... at 4 bucks a pop i don't feel like sucking on it :-)
So breather filter couldn't be causing this?
Any pics of oil catch cans are appreciated. Plenty of other sites for just cans :- )

not really. the oil doesn't really want to push out on its own. Thing about a standard plumbed breather line, it's into the intake, and most times it doesn't get any oil. Failing piston rings could be causing it or anything else that could be causing postive pressure into the crankcase. (PCV = postive crankcase valve)

Ok. well i just installed the new PCV. We'll see if it makes a difference.
I didn't notice any new oil spilling from diving home.
Oil was only coming from underneath the filler cap and not any gaskets or breather filter. Must been "user error" (put too much oil in when changed). Btw what type oil is everyone running? I am still running 5W30 (full synth). Should i go thicker now with the added temp?

5w30 in winter, i was running 15w50 this summer.
