Yesterday i installed a turboxs MBC and did the dual rail feed mod, installing the mbc i bottomed it out did a pull at 6psi pulled strong, no ping/detonation heard. right when i pushed in the clutch car died. Didnt worry sometimes before with the VTA BOV it would stall after a hard pull. Went to start it, would stay running for more than 3sec. Checked all connections on everything, intercooler piping, fuel lines, all elec. connectors-all good. Keep tryin, keeps shutting off. After like 20min car starts right up. OK. idles fine. go back onto the road try and do another pull, right when i start rolling in in 2nd gear right when boost hits stumbles and falls on its face and dies. Checked everything again. didnt start again ever, towed it to my friends shop, checked spark all the usual. checked injectors, switched fuel rails back to stock and back to the 1.6L injectors both stock and pierburg fuel pumps running. still nothing, gave up thinking maby something was wrong with my afm...went to bed. Got my friend matt to drive up there in his maita, tried his afm, same condition. finally removed the vortech unit, car started up and ran like a top.

My question is what do you all think what wrong? Its obv. stuck open. why? I've got a 7:1 disc from brainack should i try that? What all can i check? Any one else have that prob?

I'm currently driving it without the wastegate rod on the wastegate since i dont have a FPR and its soo slow. Help me figure it out!!!!

Sometimes the plunger inside the vortech gets stuck.
Open it and try to move it. I think it's stuck @ max fuelpressure...

I had very similar symptoms when my BEGI AFPR got fuct. Sometimes the car would run properly and sometimes it would just die. I rebuilt it and all was well again.

To confirm, put a fuel pressure gauge on and see what happens. If the pressure spikes way high (I was getting over 200psi) then look at the Vortec. I was able to limp the car around for a few days after pulling the fuse for the Pierburg. The stock pump was not able to make enough pressure to kill the engine, I just stayed out of boost...

probably stuck open, remove it, fix it, put my disc in.

took it compleltly appart, lubed metal piston thing slightly. put it back on still the same problem. what now???

You can try bypassing the stock FPR on the fuel rail. Remove the small vacuum line between the manifold and the FPR. Cap the open ends and zip tie them closed. See if your car will run.

buy a megasquirt??? See if you can borrow Brad's vortech and if it does the same thing.

You could install a fuel pressure gauge and see what the fuel pressure is doing

OR

you could disconnect the Pierburg fuel pump and see if it run with lower fuel pressure

OR

you could remove the AFPR from the system and see if it runs without it

OR

you could find someone local with an AFPR and swap that in and see what happens, maybe swap yours into their car and see if the problem switches cars

it was obvious that it was flooded out. it was obvious that it was the fpr... somethin is faulty in that one.

I got brads and works fine, back to boosting.

Also all this drama happend after i did the dual feed fuel rail w/ the 1.8's. I'm kind of hesistant of putting it back on... shall i worry?
