greddy manifold- 2 castings?
 

Hey all, I've heard that Greddy may have actually put out 2 different manifolds, one that is renowned for cracking, and a better cast one that was included with later kits and also were used as warranty replacements.

Is there any truth to this? I'm considering replacing the manifold, but mine is showing zero signs of cracking and distortion. I'd hate to prematurely replace something that may last a while.

Not broke, why fix?

I just figured if I was going to replace the downpipe, might as well do the manifold at the same time if it's going to eventually crack. better safe than sorry?

I think that this is correct. I've had no issues with mine (about 10K miles -- but street driven so far).

If yours are looking good, what makes you think you don't have the better casting?

Here's one case where waiting until it breaks isn't a bad thing. It's not going to destroy anything, it'll just cause an exhaust leak and you'll be down on a BIT of power until it's replaced. No need to replace it yet. There's no guarantee that it'll crack, so you might not have to do anything.

Remember Artech on here offers replacement manifolds, so if you do feel so inclined, go that route for something sexier and lighter.

My buddy had a manifold that literally cracked at lease some portion of every single weld, and while it sounded like a 78 Ford pickup with an inline six and an open manifold, it still made boost, and it really didn't hurt anything.

Vehicular could've been throwing in his two cents about cracked manifolds in general. (edit- he beat me to it)

I'm in the "ain't broke, don't fix" camp. If it does break at some point, replace with better mani or better overall setup.

Wait, I'm confused now. We are referencing a tubular manifold from another thread in a thread about cast manifolds? Huh?

No, we're referencing a cracked manifold and how it sucked, but it didn't hurt anything in a thread about whether or not this guy should preventativly replace his manifold before it cracks and hurts something.

Still confused, but I'm sure it has something to do with my age though.
