Greddy Manifold
Hey guys i have hade the same fate as most of you and my greddy manifold has cracked. Has anybody hade them repaired in the past and if so what method was used to repair?
Does anyone know what material is the manifold made from? Cast iron, cast steel, cast aluminium? |
Yes they are repairable. Its made of cast iron. Make sure you repair it right. Drill a hole on the end of each of the cracks. Then bevel the cracked part, preheat, and weld. For post welding ping the weld with a blunted object to relieve stress. Viola!

There are two good greddy manis in the classifieds fs. If you end up replacing it, I'd be interested in buying the cracked one.

you guys are far too nice.... go introduce yourself so u don't get banned....

Thanks for the info guys, I was thinking of drilling both ends and then cutting a v-grove. Pre heat and then braze with silver solder, then cool down slowly. Would people recomend this method or should i tig weld?
|
TIG weld.

Please post pics of your repair. Also, how long was it on the car?

If I can offer any advice it would be to just buy a different manifold from another manufacturer. GReddy really can't pull their heads out of their asses on this one. Their manifolds are crap and they warp to all hell. I'm on my 4th one and this one is cracked as well.

Welding cast is tricky. Most people dont do it right and it just cracks again.
You have to heat the manifold in an oven to over 500 degrees, then get all the welding done before the manifold props to below 200 degrees. It drops faster than you think. |

Have you tried all the usual fixes like relief cuts at the stud holes or bracing the downpipe to relive manifold stress? Did all of your manfolds fail in similar fashion? i.e. cracks in the same place?
