jayc72 06-14-2007 11:31 PM

How about an oil feed that doesn't suck balls?

iWeasel410 06-15-2007 07:26 PM

I'M IN HUNTINGTON!!! But no turbo....and it's a 1.8l :(

chris_lum 06-18-2007 12:19 PM

sorry guys, the project got cancelled for now! unbelievable. But keep throwing out suggestions (although this wasn't what the thread was for), and i'll keep checking in.

Braineack 06-18-2007 12:57 PM

I think the 3 major things would be:

a complete crossover tube: http://www.etdracing.com/miatatube.html
a better DP; that completely replaces the factory unit to the cat. At LEAST 2.25".
a better filter; one that does not have the nuts inside the filter itself

magnamx-5 06-18-2007 01:11 PM

I doubt we see a PNP emu on the smogable greddys since the EMU is for off raod use only. Still though a freer flowing DP would be nice as well, as a better crossover, filter combo as braineack suggests. Also an IC or WI kit would be very cool.

Although I am using AN plumbing on mine, I didn't think the stock Greddy oil feed line was bad. The stock oil return hose is a bit hokey, but then I don't expect Greddy to require that its buyers drill and tap their oil pan like many of us do. It seems like an adequate compromise given the constraints of dealing with a globally mass-marketed commodity product as opposed to the more boutique-style operations such as FM/Bell.

All in all, you gotta admit the Greddy turbo system is a pretty decent setup for the price.

Chris- any update on the CARB stickers as far as the part number is concerned? I drove up to your shop about a year ago to pick one up (my kit was missing the sticker) and although it has the correct EO number printed on it the part number didn't match the documentation or the EO paperwork. Fortunately it hasn't caused me an inspection failure yet, but I'd really like to get a correct one if they exist.

jayc72 06-18-2007 04:56 PM

Here they are in no particular order:

-The metric to ???? adapter is quite fragile and prone to breaking off in the block. Once that tiny part breaks you are focked and must either wait for ever to get it or replace the whole works. And HOPE that it is easy to remove from the block.
-The line itself is prone to leaks at the fittings.
-Difficult to route.
-Very coarse SS braid on the outside will cut through anything it rests against.
-Goofy non-standard part. Which really goes against the idea of mass market.
-It's ugly.
-I poked a hole in my finger from where the line started to fray.
-Upside is I sold it. Downside is it could have cost me an engine.

Like I said, sucks balls :)

Agreed 100%. It'll get you boosting on the cheap, and has enough headroom to be a lot of fun.

firedog25 06-18-2007 07:59 PM

I just need the midpipe and cat and I can drop my car off with Greddy.

reckless_abandon 06-18-2007 11:11 PM

what are the odds of greddy making a better downpipe?

spike 06-18-2007 11:26 PM

AJ your better off buying a downpipe from Turbo Tony or BEGi than wait around for Greddy to make one.

BTW are you having fun with your newly installed turbo?

reckless_abandon 06-19-2007 01:01 AM

settle down spike lol.

yeah i'm having quite a blast, i wasted a ton of gas today on the freeway just ripping.

now heres the question that opens the can of worms: which is better? turbotony or begi?

Either one will be better than the stock greddy piece. The BEGI unit is pretty if that means anything to you. Ben made 250whp using the Tony pipe, that SHOULD mean something to you.

reckless_abandon 06-19-2007 01:18 AM

is this a test of character?

All the carb stickers now are the same as they were a year ago, i've never personally heard of what you are talking about. What was the difference in part numbers? maybe i can look that up.

Firedog, the project has been cancelled, sorry!

FHS 06-20-2007 04:47 PM

Correct me if I'm wrong but if Greddy makes ANY changes to the kit, won't they have to resubmit paperwork for an updated CARB cert?

Thanks for the response, Chris.

Attached is a picture of the CARB sticker that I was given last year when I came up to visit you guys. It lists EO # D-397, Part # 323819. However if you look at the actual text of CARB EO D-397 it lists the P/N of the kit as 323814, which agrees with the part number listed in the instructions that come with the kit.

Fulltext of the CARB EO here: http://arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/devices/eo/D-397.pdf

Fortunately this has not yet caused me to fail an inspection, but it's been a concern.

shinobix 06-22-2007 12:24 AM

I have to agree with Joe on the cheapness of the greddy kit. although some stuff is pretty goofy on it, for the cost/hp you make after installing it. its alot better then a large majority of other cars you want to turbo.

yeah that's interesting. all of our carb stickers for the miata are printed with the 323819, but i haven't heard of anyone having a problem smogging for at least the past year that i've been doing customer service. We're probably not going to get new stickers just because there haven't been any problems, but if you do for some reason have a problem one day while at the smog station, just have them call in and we can help you out. I've helped out customers that try to smog other kits at the state Ref plenty of times when they run into problems with documentation.
