Greddy TUBULAR Manifold Replacement?
 

Hey Guys,

I have a Greddy tubular bottom mount manifold on my 1.6 Mazdaspeed Bspec. It has been welded up about 900 times by the look of it, so I would like to get something to replace it which is going to last.

It is not the log style cast one which there are many replacement options for. It is the tubular as I mentioned before, and I am really having trouble finding a direct replacement with both BEGI and Abe (unless I'm being special) and have searched for hours looking for this manifold! It was sold as part of a TD05 GReddy kit with a FMIC and Rebic controller etc.

Those are seriously rare. Chances are you won't find a replacement any time soon. Looks like that boils your choices down to 1) custom - send it to abe or someone else and have them make a replica out of better materials 2) change the setup altogether

If this was my car I would do 2 things. Get a different turbo setup, and pull the engine so I could make the car look like it didnt sit in a swamp and have birds use the valve cover for target practice.

It's a track car, so to be honest I couldn't care less what it looks like bodywork wise, leave alone under the bonnet! (You should see the body!) The valve cover is shitty but the rest of the engine bay is pretty clean (bar the black on the bulkhead which is from the blowing manifold under the normally fitted heatsheild)

It's putting out 216bhp at the moment and I'm perfectly happy with that, I just want to stop the manifold blowing.

18PSI - I have a TD04 log manifold which looks like it has the same flanges as this TD05 so I could use that, but that would mean getting a new downpipe fabbed up and a complete rerouting of all the pipework, so it's probably swings and roundabouts which will cost more :(

So this has nothing to do with the greddy kit we're accustomed to, it's just a tubular manifold made by greddy? Never heard of this. Is that a 3 bolt flange on the turbo I see? And I don't see an auxiliary fuel pressure regulator, so I'm assuming you're running an aftermarket ECU, but why the AFM?

Although I like the manifold, I agree with 18psi, send it to Abe to make a close replica, which will probably require replacing the downpipe as well. Sucks, but that's your option.

OP, when people say it's a "rare" setup, we are talking probably less than 5 people have ever posted with them here.

1)send it to Abe for a quality replica
2)scrap it for a fresh, modular setup with non-stone age parts
3)sell it on CR because it is, essentially, the JDM holy grail for miata turbo parts.

Rare and seem to be prone to cracking. I know someone else with this kit and I remember them having to get it fixed. Since you plan to track this it may be better to replace the kit or have a copy made.

I have the same kit. There are no direct replacement manifolds. Also no real options for direct replacement turbos other then a few Chrubos. Greddy discontinued the turbo, as well as the waste gate that came with these kits, and when you contact them regarding the kit they have no idea about it. They dont sell the diaphragm for the WG to rebuild it either.

I had some pieces welded onto mine here and there to help stop cracking, and also braced the EWG runner to the tranny bell housing which helped alot. I could usually get about 10000 miles or 9 months between repairs. I would highly recommend getting a new set up if you plan to drive the car for any length of time.

Im slowly trying to find a new turbo and manifold set up but since I never drive the car its low on my priority list.

But srs. I would just start over. I think everyone with a greddy has spent more time and money making good enough other then starting with something better.

+1.... The only thing good about the Greddy kit is the turbo..... And THATS not even good... just reliable...

Looks like ALL Greddy manifolds Crack, no matter what design.

All i have left on the Hotside from the Greddy kit, is the turbo and downpipe.... And the downpipe has welds spiraled all the way down it. Looks like Frankenstein Shiz... So if the Manifolds are anything like that, I TOO can vouch for the Craptabulousness of the Greddy system...

I honestly dont have many problems with the main part of the manifold. Its the ridiculously long EWG runner that cracks frequently. The heavy EWG makes it work like a tuning fork.

The turbo is Okay, But id be happier with a standard flanged TD05-16g out of an Evo. That way when It goes you could do an off the shelf swap instead of having to find a CHRA that fits in the proprietary exhaust housing. Also im not convinced that OEM Mitsu rebuild kits are a perfect fit for the greddys. Its like they machined it just a hair to make it so only they can supply the kits.

I eventually will have a disco potato.
