greddy turbo burning oil?
ok my turbo setup is burning oil so im assuming the seals have gone bad. im wundering will it be cheaper for me to buy a used turbo at the local junk yard and judt use it if little to no play buy new turbo or buy rebuild kit and rebuild it myself?????
how hard is rebuilding a turbo properly???? |
make sure you've plumbed everything correctly...how long have you had it, and how long has it been burning?
rebuilt it yourself....it's easy....click my DIT Projects in the DIY section...i have Sam's writeup there. |
im curious should i be running an oil restrictor??? it burns oil after running it hard and only when it drops back to idle. the harder it was run the more it burns. then it stops after a few. how much would a restrictor run????? were could i get a rebuild kit for my greddy turbo??? and how much is it?

you shouldn't need a restrictor with the GReddy kit....just good plumbing....
are you using the OEM oil return location? uphill travel? is your pcv valve working? is you breather line connected to the intake? it almost sounds like you are pressurizing the crankcase. |
Check your oil return line before you do anything crazy. The greddy oil return is long and must decline the entire way to the pan. If it goes horizontal or inclined at any point, you'll burn oil.
I burned a qt of oil over 200 miles once. All I had to do was push on the oil drain line where it had become horizontal. My car has never burned a noticable amount of oil before or since. I check my oil level at every fill up and it stays full. |
im running the oem oil return location the pcv valve is new but i might buy the 323 gtx one. my breather is hooked up. so im assuming it is the turbo so were can i find a rebuild kit for the lowest cost????

Could be blowing oil into the intake via the PCV. Check for oil pre-turbo before you start to go nuts.

there is none....

I get a bit of oil burning at startup myself. In fact, at first, it shoots some raw oil droplets until it warms up enough to burn.
I'm sure it is just my oil line routing / PCV stuff. Hopefully it'll be the same for you. Try this: Put a qtip in the intake tube coming from the PCV and see if there is any oil in there. There shouldn't. |
i just changed out my new miata pcv for a mercury capri 1.6 turbo pcv and still burning oil so im just gunna say screw it and buy a rebuild kit and do it myself

Hi,
I removed intake for something else on my -91 daily driver greddy, and as a routine wiggled the compressor shaft. And there was quite much play, lot more than anticipated or compared to my other turbo. No extra sounds or oil burn yet and the turbo spools up like before, but I guess I should rebuild it before blades touch housings. Now are those rebuilt manuals on DIY FAG helpful for Mitsubishi TD04 15G turbo in Greddy? Is there Greddy specific "how to" somewhere? I assume this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=130069479011 could be used for Greddy Turbo? Thanks in advance hrk |
