Greddy turbo to FM3 upgrade!!

So maybe some of you saw from the for sale thread, but its official now. I owe Lee a little more money and then I will be the owner of a FM3 kit! :) I was very content with my Greddy setup and had plans to do a 19t upgrade, ETD manifold, new IC pipes and IC, etc etc. Then after my experience with Deadbolt and Lee selling his kit right around that time, it seemed to be perfect timing to upgrade completely.

So now I am outside getting my engine bay cleaned up and put back together so when the turbo stuff comes I can go nuts. But now, I'm starting to think....maybe there's something else I should consider doing while in these stages. I want to work out all the kinks and have solutions ready, rather than run into problems during the install.

So I'm looking for any recommendations from you guys. If you were going from the Greddy to the FM3, or just wanted to do more....what would it be? I am still home from work, so I need to be super careful with the money I have left. Right now, it looks like I'll have about $1500 left, after I finish paying Lee. The turbo kit is pretty much a complete kit. I'm thinking more of what should I get to accompany the kit.

What I have in mind;

PNP COP's from Savington
MS PNP
Switch oil drain to oil pan
LC-1

Only thing is my current wheel and tire combo is fucked. I hate the tires rubbing, I cant even give the car boost without the rear dipping and making the rear tires smoke from rubbing the fenders. So I was thinking about a somewhat well priced set of wheels and tires, around $800-$900.

And this was going to be the same time that I finally got me a decent sound system. I was looking to spend only about $350-$400 on that, and do the install myself. I might just hold on this though until I get my stimulus check.

Just trying to see if I am in the right mind or if I am missing anything obvious. Right now I am putting in the new valve cover and trying to get everything I unbolted to paint the engine bay, bolted back up.

slightly off topic, but did you post details of the 19t upgrade? if not, can you? :-)

Vash, you new hood will not clear the turbo piping on the FM3,you will need to clock the turbo & run new pipes or cut the hood for clearance.

dam. It sucks to lose a another greddy guy.

I say fix the tires rubbing problem or get MSpnp.

Vash, good buy! :bigtu:

Now, take it one step at a time with the rest of the expenses. Do you have an FMU? if so, take care of the tires first (I don't understand why you also need new rims) and the LC-1 wideband and start using Lee's kit without going crazy with the boost :)

Be on the lookout for any MS that may come into the classifieds and in the meantime save your money until you're back to work.

Really? Is this a fact or you just think I'll have clearance issues? Son of bitch!
lol. If this is the case, I have a box full of IC pipes I was going to use with my Greddy. I'll just get me a new shiny FMIC and do all new IC pipes I guess.

The Greddy kit was good to me. I bought it used from another guy on this board years ago, Pololo (I don't even think he's around anymore). I had it on the car for roughly 4 years I think. This FM3 coming up for sale and my turbo being toast came at me in the same week. So the choice was kinda made for me!

I have a Walbro 190hp, 1.8 injectors, and emange blue tuned to my Greddy setup at 8psi. I think if I keep the FM3 at the stock 8psi on the Tial wastegate I might get away with what I have. The reason I don't want to have to tune the emanage is.....I don't have a running laptop or the software. I have a bootleg cable and software I got from someone. Its really halfassed...

The tires and wheels are a joke. I seriously drove my car 95% of the time, out of boost. Every time the rear dips the tires go "kkkkkkkkkkkhhhhhhhhhhh" and when you look in the mirror you can see smoke pouring off the wheel. I'm hoping I will have enough money to get the LC-1, MSPNP, and a ok set of wheels and tires. I figure I can probably sell the wheels and tires I have, as well as my EMB setup.

Looks like back to work for me might be a little longer than I can hold out. I plan on finishing the car, and then looking for another job in the meantime. The economy is so bad right now with building. Everyone is fucking moving south, so we we have nobody building up here! 3 other foundation companies in our area went out of business in the last month. Our company CFC has been going strong for over 40 years so I know we'll be fine, but it might cut the # of employees down. Seeing I just came off surgery, I'm pretty much last on the list to bring back. Sometimes I get shit for being the boss's kid, but people don't understand, thats not a good thing.

Vash,I seriously considered the Autokonexion hood when he was doing the group buy,but upon doing alot of eye balling from the pictures of the hood(and also the ones installed on cars)and the location of the FM pipe and cold airbox, there was no way it was going to clear without cutting up the hood or getting rid of the airbox & relocating the pipe.

I'm pretty sure Autokenexion knows about the clearance issues too.

Are you speaking only of the intake setup, or the IC pipes as well? I was going to use another intake system anyways. If I keep my AFM I will have to anyway, and plus I don't really like the look of the cold air box.

I'm sure I can make it all work, but now I'm nervous....:eek5:

Hell, if you're not going to use the IC stuff from the FM3 kit, lemme know. I'm hard pressed to get a solution and since my turbo has not been clocked downwards yet....the FM3 kit will cut back some of my fab time. :)

Please let me know if you're going to sell it!

Cheers,
Prospero

I'm talking about the cold air box & the IC pipes.

It will fit once you get rid of the cold air box and clock the turbo or cut the hood. You will see what I mean when the time comes.
