Greddy turbo problem

I have a greddy turbo and manifold on my mx5, the car was smoking a lot so I took the turbo for a rebuild, it was quite badly damaged, the shaft was turned down and new bearings made.

The issue is now the car started smoking badly again, the company who rebuilt the turbo have stripped it, said there is carbon build up inside probably caused by the turbo getting too hot, this has caused the bushes to run dry and wrecked the turbo, I'm not sure what to do, they company has a good name over here but I don't want to spend more money getting it rebuilt again if it is just going to fail again.

Also the greddy manifold looks to have a little crack near the flange where the turbo bolts on.

throw it in the trash and start over with a superior kit like begi/fm or put together your own.

The only thing left of the greddy kit is the turbo and manifold, but running stock engine means the greddy will supply all the boost I need, junk it is a option, but then have to try and source a new manifold, downpipe and turbo from somewhere else so not sure its worth it.

Repairing a cracked cast iron manifold and rebuilding a fried turbo for the second time sounds like a recipe for MASSIVE FAIL, so I don't think you have many options. And it will probably fail again.

Guess the car will have to come off the road until I have some spare cash to get the parts together, better get reading for the best options on what to look for.

You can always get a tdo4-19t off eBay for a decent price. It's a direct swap for the 15g you have now, but with slightly more headway. Nicklesport has some for cheap that the Volvo guys seem to really like. A begi shanghai would be a nice cheap replacement if you don't plan on building the engine for higher Hp than the stock engine will take.

So the only two parts of the original kit you have left are both broken.

In all honesty, this sounds like an excellent justification for starting fresh with a better turbo system. The only part you'd be replacing that isn't already trash is the downpipe, and to me, that's not a good enough reason to stick with a badly designed and underpowered system.

The greddy kit contains a real crap oil return line- if you're still on the stock one, chances are it's not flowing properly and you're not getting proper flow

The return has been modified with a straight outlet and tapped straight into the sump, should be flowing away ok.

I'm having the turbo rebuilt using a TD04 water cooled core from a subaru as its been overheated.
