Greddy Type S BOV Problems

2 Attachment(s)
Well i finally got my 'used' Greddy Type S BOV.

Ist impressions are that it is huge. Well bigger than my HKS SSQV.

First snag I came across was connecting the thing to my IC pipes. So managed to get the appropriate.

Anyway second and BIG problem is I fitted it and tried to VTA on idle. It would not and all I could hear was what sounded like wastegate chater/turkey gobble.

As you can tell by the pics below both outlets from the bov are teed to one hose which is then connected to the nipple on the inlet manifold.

I also tried it with only one outlet conencted but still no joy.

I left the adjustment screw as it was when I rec'd it. From the pic you can see it is wound out quite a bit.

I took it for a drive and it would not VTA at all.

I am very dissapointed as I was soo looking forward to hearing it sound like the greddy type s bov clips on youtube.

Any ideas what if anthing I am doing wrong?:vash:

connect the lower port pre-TB (so compressor outlet) and the top port POST TB, so the two ports on behind in on the intake manifold.

tabs604 06-15-2007 03:12 PM

with my hks I just run one port from the throtte body!

What two ports are there on the throttle body and where the hell is the one on the compressor housing.

Pics would really help dude. URGENTLY:confused:

Braineack 06-15-2007 03:17 PM

just use the top only then. leave the bottom open.

the purpose of the lower port is to help push open the valve faster, so you dump open fast and im my case, without boost....

cheers bud.

Sorry about all the dumb questions.

How the hell did you get the greddy to fit where it does on your set-up? does it not rub against the top radiator hose? Mine does.

Also On my greddy compresser outlet I only have one outlet. This is compressor outlet to wastegate. How do I connect my bov to this?

Also why did I hear compresser surge? Do I need to tighten or loosen the bov?

If it helps the bov was on a Pulsar before my car.

Braineack 06-15-2007 03:40 PM

mine's mounted low enough that it doesn't rub, I can stick my finger between it and the hose.

tee off the wastegate tee, pre MBC

loosen the valve all the way....then drive away, tighten untill you start to flutter, then back it off a bit so it doesnt flutter. In my experience, with both ports hooked post TB, you'll flutter down low (1-5psi)...you're probably just hearing flutter and not surge....surge and loud and skreechy. Flutter will sound like like wings flapping.

loosen the valve all the way....

[QUOTE]

....in or out!

When I was 'test' fitting it was half way.

I have screwed it all the way in and will have to wait till it gets light tomoz now to test.

Also I really aprreciate your help and reply.

Just want to clear up somthing.

The top tee on the Greddy BOV goes to the nipple on the throttle boddle.

The lower tee hose goes to the compressor housing.

Please confirm the above are correct please.

Braineack 06-15-2007 04:10 PM

yeah, lines are correct.

IN means valve is tight....so won't blow off very easily, if it does, it will open and close rapidly and flutter. So adjust it all the way OUT to start, slowly adjusting it in untill you have a good balance of tightness and no-flutter.

then you'll sound all badass like me:

It's louder than you think....more of a whoosh....when it was recirculated it was a loud ass whistle....see my passes evo on track vid.

Tabs if you want insanely loud BOV noise, just get the Turbosmart supersonic,or you car remove the tri-blade fin in your old HKS valve to achieve the loud wooosh sound, instead of the high pitched squeel.

tabs604 06-15-2007 05:33 PM

Spike,

I had the TS before I had an intercooler and it was too quiet for me. I have heard the megasonic on a friends car and dont like it.

I like the squeels and chirps you hear from BOV. Really hope I can ge this Greddy to work and sound correctly.

I am a bit concerned as it used one from ebay.

spike 06-15-2007 05:41 PM

I have the supersonic and I love it! I'm not a fan of the ones that chirp.

anyways....Tabs have you taken the valve apart and cleaned it?

tabs604 06-15-2007 05:59 PM

yes I took it apart and it is very clean inside already.

Braineack 06-15-2007 06:25 PM

listen here same BOV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oP0A...elated&search=

If you hook both lines up correctly it will function fine. If you can pull the intake manifold an drill and tap it for a bit larger vacuum ports then all the better.

tabs604 06-16-2007 06:23 AM

UPDATE!

Right got the Greddy BOV fitted this morning. All vacum Lines all correctly attached and it makes the tell tale greddy shriek.

However, as soon as the revs drop the idle drops and it stalls.

I have played with the adjustment screw winding it all the way out and then in. but no matter what so far when reved whether it be on idle or pulling up to stop when driving it stalls.

I have tightned up clamps and checked hoses. Sounds like a vacum leak to me or the BOV could be fucked.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as this is turning into a headache.

I am tempted to put my HKS back on which gave me no problems and sell the greddy on ebay.
