I didn't want to take over his listing so check the link above.

Just wondering if anyone else has tried the the "hole saw" to tap the pan?

Since I am unable to find a proper sized tap around here, I am thinking that this may be an option, maybe a bit unprofessional but if the JB weld will hold on then then may not be too crazy...

you still need to tap the hole with a hole saw....i wouldn't feel comfortable with the pilot bit extending so far beyond the hole saw part. I'd rather use a uni-bit. But like i said, you really wanna tap the hole.

Unibit is still going to protrude further into the pan than I'm comfortable with.

you could replace the pilot with a piece of 1/4" drill rod. Found at your local production tool supply or grainger. I was told by a machinist that the hole saw is inappropriate, firstly because of the chatter on the thin sheet metal of the pan, and secondly because it would leave a jagged and unruly surface for the tap, not a clean drilled hole like a twist drill bit.

Why is it so hard for people to get the right drill and tap to do this?

jayc72 05-31-2008 12:50 AM

If you seriously can't get the bit do it by hand. Drill a small pilot hole and get a hand reamer (probably get on cheap at Harbour Freight). Once you get the hole to the correct size use the fitting to cut threads and JB weld the shit out of it.

Seriously, get the right equipment and don't follow the above advice. Call up FM or BEGI and buy it from them.

Someone or some people on this forum have 2 sets...1 from FM and the other from BEGi. I passed these along to members who needed them..FREE!!!
I EVEN PAID FOR THE SHIPPING!! With the condition that they pass it along to the next person in need. SO if you got one of these...please SPEAK UP.

i don't understand people spending thousands on turbo equipment, and trying to cheap on the tools to do it right

I didn't get a set, but I will do the same with the set I get from BEGI. Way to pay it forward.
Thanks for that.
