so with plan B for a total cost of ~$1500 , I am getting a full Begi S5 turbo kit $6k retail, FM stage II clutch + flywheel, HD rollbar, BC coilovers, FM butterfly brace, LC1 WB, and newer LSD rear end for my 99.

If it's ever crossed your mind, now would be a perfect time to do an NB2 conversion on the 99 with whatever you could use from the 02.

I was thinking about that, so far i am planning to swap out the lsd rear end.

also thought about swapping bumper and headlights.

It so happens to be that both cars are the same color. :)

but i am not sure how i can then sell a 2002 that looks like a 99?

Getting that vvt nb back to stock is your best bet, buuut depending on the condition of the motor in stock form. That would be the deciding factor to sell or not. I mean, is the nb shell in better shape minus the motor?

Or is your original in better condition? Definitely find out the health of the vvt motor in stock form.

If I were you, I'd keep both and slowly work on both cars and see what options pop up once you figure out whats up.

The NB2 looks good, but if you look underneath, its pretty rusty, rear wheel wells, and under the side skirts it not so good. so the shell is not tip top.

my 99 is 100% rust free and pretty mint.

I bought a new WB sensor, cam angle sensor, and put in a different MAF yesterday. will take it for a drive today to see the A/F and see if it runs better with new maf and cam sensor.

FWIW kids: P0171 is a lean code.

Unmetered air leaks, not enough fuel, skewed 02s, etc.

borka 03-15-2016 06:19 PM

Ok. New maf, cam angle sensor, wideband sensor, cleaned crank angle sensor, looked over all vacuum hoses, re routed pinched hose from bov, re tightened all piping.

And well......

No more check engine, no more zero power, pulls like it should in vacuum and really strong in boost at 9.5lbs.

Spool is too slow for my taste, I get 9.5lbs close to 5k rpm. But I will blame stock exhaust for that.

Pretty happy right now, even the xede tune is decent. 12 Afr under boost.

Double check your intercooler hot side for oil pool, just a guess :dunno:

You should be hitting max boost way sooner than that :likecat:

you think turbo is puking oil into charge piping?

next i will check if oil feed line has a restrictor in it.

congrats :likecat:

now clean up the disgusting mess and start catching up on all the maint the car was likely neglected on. then exhaust (if you're on stock now, the difference will be really big)

Don't forget to be checking the oil levels...

That much oil from photos is a very large concern.

If I remember correctly the CHRA might have it's own restrictor built in :dunno:, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Wow, that is terrible spool. Is the car just on wastegate or some some type of boost controller? Congrats on the easy, moderatly inexpensive, fix.

well, i think its 7 years worth of oil in the pipes, i will clean them out and intercooler, and check again in a month, if again there is much oil, then turbo needs new seals.

Wastegate only, its a Tial EWG, boost is stable at 9.5lbs but takes forever to get there.

I just looked, and one bolt is missing from the 2 bolt flange that holds the tial ewg, might be leaking exhaust pressure from there and loosing spool.

will try to get in there and put a bolt, really hope i dont have to take out the whole turbo to do that.

Month? lol

You'll notice in a day if you're losing oil

We have the same turbo, 2860rs, in 4th gear at 2000 rpm, if you floor it, what rpm do you get 10lbs of boost? or normally when do you hit 10 lbs?

turbofan 03-17-2016 06:14 PM

I've got a 2871R, so a bit larger, and i'm hitting 8 PSI by 3250 rpm, 10 psi by 3500.

but you have a nice tubular vs their logs

Ah yes, good point.
