hose shielding

has anyone ever thought of using something like http://www.heatshieldproducts.com/th...ose_sleeve.php to wrap their coolant hose in the back of the engine? I was wanting to wrap it, but it just isn't very attractive.:td:

People have wrapped their hoses with all kinds of heat resistant materials. Whatever works, just make sure they are protected.

I used spark wires ones before....if they were larger I.D. it would have worked better. I had to slit them down the sides and tie them back up....they held up great though, looked clean, got saturated in oil when my dipstick blew off once and i had to pull them and replace.

I use Aeroquip firesleeve on my heater hoses. It's pretty expensive stuff but it's rated for really high temps.

y8s 05-01-2007 01:41 PM

the tubes are nice if you dont have to drain the radiator, otherwise slit them and safety wire them in place.

I used the insultherm from Wirecare.net for my heater hoses. It's good for like 1500* or something.

www.wirecare.com

took me a while, but I figured out your mistake...

thanks for that link though, that looks like the best/cheapest stuff I've found so far.

curly 05-01-2007 02:12 PM

actually https://www.wirecare.com/products.as...FG&prodline=ES if you want to get specific.

I see it only goes up to 1", is that the size you used, and did it fit well? I'm all over this like a fat kid on a cupcake if it worked well for you.

Braineack 05-01-2007 02:29 PM

great prices! I'd replace my current wrap with that...

FYI: Mach V motorsports is selling an exhaust wrap kit that comes with two rolls of 2"X50' copper heat wrap, stainless snap straps, and DEI spray for $60. I'm ordering a kit for my downpipe to aid in maintaining underhood temps.

neogenesis2004 05-03-2007 01:48 AM

ive used the heatshieldingproducts reflecta-sleeve before. http://www.heatshieldproducts.com/he...eld_sleeve.php

Works great

Kelly 05-03-2007 01:57 AM

I've used the DEI Cool Tube Extreme but anything from Wire Care is gonna be the shit!:bigtu:

neogenesis2004 05-03-2007 01:58 AM

oh wow, that nomex stuff is off da chain!

firedog25 05-03-2007 02:14 AM

Is anyone using a turbo heat wrap? I was thinking about doing that to help with underhood temps as well.

y8s 05-03-2007 09:54 AM

There's a post in the 4-sale section by WOT about where to get these: fits nice on a GT25 hotside.

Sorry bout the incorrect link. It had been some time since I'd been there. I actually have to give WOT the credit as I got the link from him some time ago.

All right, it looks the Firesleeving from Hosenow is a winner, plus it looks like they've got some of the flat stuff. Hopefully they sell it in less-than-10foot increments.

What is the correct diameter of the hoses back there to the heater core?

TheBandit 05-04-2007 01:59 PM

They are approx. 1" dia. if I recal correctly.

Atfer you wrap the heater hoses, do you still let the hose closest to drivers side rest on the down pipe?

I wouldn't. Tie the hose outta the way or trim it short to pull it away from the pipe.

m2cupcar 08-16-2007 08:25 PM

:werd: don't let anything touch the downpipe- it'll burn up even the fire wrap. I've used a DEI shield for a large hose laid out flat like a blanket between the heater hoses and downpipe. Works well as a shield and provides good air circulation.

reckless_abandon 08-16-2007 11:15 PM

how are you guys keeping your hoses out of the way of the downpipe? the begi downpipe is massive and pushes up against one of the hoses.
i've just got some kind of heatfoil in between them rightnow.

spike 08-16-2007 11:50 PM

^ Take a pry bar and bend the heater hose out of the way of the downpipe.

How do you do that with out pulling it out of the water pump inlet. I left mine unbolted, was I not supposed to?

I zipped-tie mine together and it pulls the outlet off the DP and closer to the intlet hose.

levnubhin 08-17-2007 09:57 AM

I was thinking about cutting the 90* portion of that pipe running off the manifold and reattaching the hose so it would be closer to the block and away from the downpipe. Does anyone think this is bad?
