Default i beat an sti

http://www.subaru.com/shop/overview....mmand=overview

i just raced one of these last night,
it was white, and completely stock.

**things to mention**
it was moist out, as it had rained an hour before hand,
i have 195's on the back
car is 92 with greddy kit(well, whats left of it), intercooler, turbo back, injectors, hallman b/c set at 10psi

so we went from a second gear roll, and he dusted me, i was spinning clean through second, and some of third, catching it near the end
so he rolls on to the highway, and looks over at me, and this time were side by side, but im in 3rd now.
we both romp on it and i take him, only by about a half a car length? maybe a car at most, like i mean his bumper was right were my quarter panel was.
im very very please at this, seeing as this car is rated at 305 hp, and costs 35k
mine was 4k with 3 k in mods

he gets off at the next exit and we hit a light, he rolls his window down and tells me "that miata has *****" gave me a thumbs up and rolled off.

i was jittery for like 3 hours after that, i think i told every person i bumped into that my miata just beat an sti.

thats my rant

lol congrats man. but i must say: a stock sti is really nothing special. my wrx with a turboback and a tune @17psi took down sti's left and right.
i mean, they trap only 100-103mph and even an srt4 or a mazdaspeed3 can compete with that stock vs stock from a roll. but i give props where it is due so congrats, for the money invested in your car it really is pretty cool.

oh how i wish youd run into me lol
and i drive a lowly wrx too

but its all good, i wont defend sti's on here i dont even like em: for 10k less you can make a wrx just as nice and WAY faster for about 3k in mods.

i gotta ask: what do you trap in the quarter mile to be shitting on sti's? just curious

Never took my car to the strip. Hopefully this summer I'll get to.....maybe.

I have little respect for the sti fad. Whatever, everyone has their thing....but anyone can go to the Subaru dealer and buy one. For a daily driver I think sti's and evo's are awesome. But 90% of people that drive them think they are speed racer....**** that.

I had a particular kid in a sti **** with me on the highway, I played with his *** for about 10-20 miles. When all was said and done he gave a thumbs up and backed off. Since then, haven't even looked at a sti.....

Only car I can say that I fucked with, and was without a doubt insane fast, was a RHD silvia. ******* car looked like it was straight out of tokyo drift....lol. But I will say, he had the power to back up the looks. I was speechless....

Including suspension and braking upgrades? I doubt it. Maybe you were talking about straight line speed.

yeah... except the wrx came with a glass transmission. most of the reason I'd pay for an STI over a "normal" wrx is for the stronger tranny.

10 psi with no management is not such a great idea.

Do you have a dual feed fuel rail?

Better question, whats your full set up?

well, im not saying anything about sti vs miata or making this into any kind of argument, so dont get me wrong. however, the reason i say what i say is cause there are QUITE A FEW sti's running 11's at over 111 miles per hour here with basically turboback and tune and a few misc things. when a miata claims to **** on them i tend to wanna know what its putting down. and i used to make fun of subaru's when i had my rsx's, till i got one. im tellin you, its not a fad. sure there are idiots out there with stock ones or bullshit mods like a cai and atmospheric bov thinking they are hot ****, but for the most part the subaru community is composed of very cool people many of which are gearheads that do their own work and tuning on their cars. you dont just "go to the dealer" and call it a day, there is much to be done to properly build up one and learn how to drive it properly: in the hands of an idiot an sti can get beat by a geo metro, im sad to report:(
but please dont take this the wrong way, like i said i mean no hostility in my post

bro, i got my 2007 wrx used with 9k miles on it for 17k....read my sig, look at my pics in the noob thread: everything in there and MANY things i didnt include put me at a total of 23k the way the car sits, engine mods, suspension mods, sti type ra gearset, and all the cosmetic things like sti inteiror and all sti exterior pieces. im not bragging, but i bought 80% of my stuff online hardly used, and ended up with a car that i wouldnt waste gas on even a modded sti unless it had larger turbo
and it looks like this (just took a couple more shots of it last night for the hell of it):

my sti type ra gearset (from a jdm sti with 4.4fd and equally spaced gears) totalled me 1500. the 4 pot calipers/brakes on the 06-07's are marginally weaker than the sti's.....my engine setup will laugh at an sti, even a modded one unless it runs something along the lines of an fp green turbo and extensive tuning.

anyways, guys dont get me wrong i am in no way bashing miatas or claiming superiority here, after all: im selling my wrx and getting a miata here shortly lol
all im saying, is that a little credit should be given to these cars, and in my personal opinion a wrx can be made much better than an sti for much less money total invested. with roughly 3k in engine mods my wrx is low 12's high 11's capable and i have vids to prove it. a miata will not compete in a straight line, though im sure in the twisties it will whoop my ***, tein suspension and all lol.......i tuned quite a bit of wrx's/sti's in my area, and am happy to report taht none of them ran slower than mid 12's at over 105mph

Me personally, I think any Impreza made after 2001 is ugly. I would take a 99-01 GC8 with an Sti swap over any newer Subaru!

I'm a former Suby guy too and a good cat and a tune on an STI will smoke %90 of the Miatas on the board from a light or rolling. They're just stupid easy to make power on and the stock turbo isn't as bad as it was once thought to be. Lots of impressive passes on the stock turbo.

I'll agree with pretty much everything 18psi said except for the RA gearset (not worth the 1500, and people are still toasting them) and the 4 pots being marginally weaker than the Brembos on the STI. That's like saying the 4 pots are marginally stronger than the '02 Rex 2 pots. And I'd run a GM BCS instead of a Hallman MBC, but hey, tomato, tomahto.

I had a Forester XT (STI 2.5 motor) with an FP "green" turbo and FMIC, that put down 411 whp on 103 octane. Not as fun every day as a quick turbo Miata though, but I couldn't be touch on the highway.

As for the "the car costs 35K" argument, I could pick up a shitty Mustang 5.0 and spray a 200 shot and beat a lot of cars too, but you get more than just a faster car for your money. The STI is a functional car in the rain and snow. The Miata, not so much.

For $35k I would buy a used Carrera or early 911 Turbo, or even a used Elise before I would buy an Sti. But I guess if you can only afford one car, an Sti is a good balance of cargo space and speed.

or for 20k you could buy a barely used wrx, for another 6 make it faster than than a carrera or 911 turbo, handle better than an sti, AND still have the sti's cargo space, 4 doors, all below the sti's 35k price tag

just puttin it out there

Those would be my current cars not including my off-road toys!! And I have zero debt in the form of depreciable assets, so life isn't too bad! If I made a list of past cars, that would be quite lengthy.

I could care less about speed if I was driving an early Guards Red 911 Turbo, the status more than makes up for it.
