If I had an STi or a WRX, I would go rally racing and slam into a tree. I dont like those cars . Every time i hear one they always sound broken in stead of unique.

I always thought they sounded damn good until I figured out my miata can sound the same... all I have to do is switch one injector channel and the spark map off the MS and back to the stock ECU. Sounds just like a subby flat 4.

no way really? hahahah thats funny.. i didnt know that...doesnt it have alot to do with the unequal length headers our cars have?

i honestly love the sound of a boxer 4, but know many people that hate it.....its either one or the other love it or hate it, and i definitely wont argue my opinion: its just that, and opinion. but i think they sound DAMN good

phew,

for the record,

i love Subaru's , i wanted a wrx for a long long time, but stumbled over this miata
most of my friends drive wrx's, most with over 400 at the wheels
i love my miata, and im quite happy with its mods and its ability to take stock sti's and evo's

a friend of mine has this lc1 thing that hooks to my exhaust and my air fuels are 11.5 to 12.4 ,,,,,, its really rich down low, and leans out toward the top, but its not too unsafe yet

im buying a duel feed, along with engine management, as soon as i procure funds

18psi - ur rex is the ****
arkmage - the wrx tranny sucks dick, all of my friends have blown theirs, one currently is rocking a rwd setup with 520 at the rear wheels (it doesnt move....)
fireindc - thank you
zoom2zoom - i dislike the look of any Subaru 2002+

and i admit, driving stupid is safer at the track, not the street, but i just had to find out where i stood, granted, not the smartest idea to test it in the rain.

thanx for the good and the bad comments, all are welcome,
i am now lowering the boost to around 5psi because my car dislikes 10,
the rear end is on its way out, and i need to conserve.

ive had the car since september, and 90% of work was done outside in the snow...
im happy with my progress but i have an idea for this winter, im going to store the miata, buy a truck, and i will be building a 5.0 miata, a friend of mine is doing the same exact thing
so as soon as we get started, we will let you guys know, we have two shells right now
and we are sourcing out the motors, and the kit to drop them in

anyhoo, i credit anything and everything regarding my miata, to this website

thats my rant, take it or leave it 11.gif

Sic man.

It's sad, I'm not going to be faster than my G/Fs car after my DIY.

Her car is an Sti w/ an '07 sti turbo, tune, exhaust, front mount, tein coilovers with EDFC, Borla 3 inch, ARP headstuds, and a bunch of other things I'm missing. Bash on Sti's all you want, but I think they are bad ***.

hmm, lets see now: my car has way more power than a stock or even non-big turbo sti. it handles ridiculously better. aside from the seats it doesnt have an "sti" logo anywhere else on the car, and even those i swapped in cause i like how they match the car and the microfiber cloth. it has sti side skirts and rear bumper cause they look nicer. it DOES NOT have the god awful sti wing, nor any of the sti emblems. all this for about 12k less. i fail to see how the hell you are getting that impression but whatever floats your boat.

ps: i guess all the people on here that boosted their miatas for a fraction of the cost of a mazdaspeed miata are all "mazdaspeed miata" wannabe's huh?

just puttin it out there
I can buy a civic or mustang like fmowrystated, for a couple grand and spend 10K in mods that will outerperform cars costing many times more. This argument occurs between WRX and STi owners all the time at NASIOC and is silly. Also, I would hope you could spend $20K for a used WRX as you can get a used STi for $20K+. You can find bugeyes for $10-$12K.

Yeah that is echoed quite a bit, but the GD chassis is much stiffer and the new Impreza based on the modified Legacy chassis is even better. Don't get me wrong I plan on a swapped L, but I also plan on lots of chassis stiffening.

I remember when I first saw the GDB and couldn't believe how ugly I thought it was. After seeing it at the ATL auto show I warmed up to it. Never liked the 04/05 redesign and I hated the 06-07 for awhile and now I think its looks quite good. Same with the 08, I now think it ranks up there with the GC.

I'll agree with pretty much everything 18psi said except for the RA gearset (not worth the 1500, and people are still toasting them) and the 4 pots being marginally weaker than the Brembos on the STI. That's like saying the 4 pots are marginally stronger than the '02 Rex 2 pots. And I'd run a GM BCS instead of a Hallman MBC, but hey, tomato, tomahto.

I had a Forester XT (STI 2.5 motor) with an FP "green" turbo and FMIC, that put down 411 whp on 103 octane. Not as fun every day as a quick turbo Miata though, but I couldn't be touch on the highway.

As for the "the car costs 35K" argument, I could pick up a shitty Mustang 5.0 and spray a 200 shot and beat a lot of cars too, but you get more than just a faster car for your money. The STI is a functional car in the rain and snow. The Miata, not so much.

Frank
Yeah in 03 the USDM cars got the RA width gears and they still broke/break.

Yes, the UEL headers are what make the "boxer rumble". Put on some EL headers and they sound like any other 4-cylinder car. I also believe your 4.4FD has a lot to do with your quickness. Not knocking your car's power as I'm sure it would still be quite fast with the stock FD, but the tall FD really helps it scoot off the line. Out of curiosty what RPM are you lugging at in 5th gear at, say around 70mph? I could enter the info in to gearcalc I suppose, but I don't know your wheel/tire dimensions.

I think I am one of the few to actually provide pics.

Also notice the top left corner of the picture. This was taken in the office of T1 Race Development while waiting for a car to get off the dyno.

did you miss the part where i said the car totalled me 23k with all mods? gimme a break, this debate is not about a civic, hell you can make a geo outperform a corvette but its still a peice of **** and th vette is nice..........this is between two cars that HAVE THE SAME CHASSIS, have nearly THE SAME ENGINE (06-07's have the 2.5L btw), and LOOK THE SAME.....

Well aware the 06/07 has the 2.5 in it. Yes, I did miss the point where you said 23k with mods. So where are we? Oh yeah, agreeing that you could get a used WRX for well under 20k.

I was simply pointing out the whole; "I can buy X car and mod it to be better than more expensive y car" is stupid and pointless. I know it's crazy, but some people don't want to mod a car, they simply want to buy it and drive it and not worry about a voided warranty and other issues that go along with a modded car.

Anyway, thread is way OT. You have a nice car and should be proud, enjoy it.

lol im really not invading....im actually in here cause i want a miata and pretty soon will get one

my 5th gear rpm sux at 70mph, cause the gearing is so much shorter actually. it is right around 3500 rpm going 80, and my tires are 18x7 225/40/18 go ahead and plug that in the calc, im actually curious to see as well haha.......

and im sad to report that my quarter mile times actually got worse with the ra tranny, but not cause it sux i just really havent got used to it yet. on the street though during spirited driving it helps tremendously since it keeps the 20g in the 5-7k rpm, its "sweet spot"......anyways, yeah we did get off topic lol, back to thread:

I wasn't referring to you with the invasion comment, but rather musanovic's comment about "STi wannabe".

Had to guess at RPM limit and peak power@RPM. I've also found different values for RA gearsets, used the V6 RA numbers.
