I built an exhaust!

As the title says, I built an exhaust. I used a stock SRT-4 system. I only used 1 tip, but it looks great! I will get pictures of it and hopefully a sound clip. It sounds pretty much just like an SRT-4, which is kinda neat. Just happy I got rid of the stock system!

omg no pic, ban.

miataspeed1point6 03-27-2007 07:37 PM

I'm workin on it!

Nice large tip, better than the stupid stock one.

So what does everyone think? I'm in love with it, now my car has some bark to go with it's bite.

miatamania 03-27-2007 08:19 PM

what size is that...sound clips or ban is next.

I think its 2.25" or 2.5". Its a stock SRT-4 system. I wanted 3", but I have no money. I will try to get a sound clip on sunday, I don't have any way to do it until then. It sounds almost exactly like an SRT-4.

those welds are uh... yeah.

cjernigan 03-27-2007 09:21 PM

Looks homegrown beginer style fluxcore to me. When on a $10 budget (cost of welds) i think it looks good.

miataspeed1point6 03-27-2007 09:26 PM

Made with a 140amp MIG welder, and since I've never welded before...at least it's held together!

A guy I work with had the welder but was too busy to do it for me, so I just did it myself. I also used a cutoff wheel and angle grinder, no ban saw or chop saw. I'll admit they look crappy, but it was the best I could do. It was really fun though, and I'm proud of it!

Nice! Glad to see that exhaust went to good use :)

miataspeed1point6 03-28-2007 01:10 AM

Yep! I plan to make the downpipe out of the rest of it soon. I need to figure out a way to get it done fast because the hoists at work are always full.

Thanks for the exhaust man, I owe you huge! How is your exhaust coming along?

Mimime 03-28-2007 01:20 AM

Where is the muffler?

FHS 03-28-2007 01:27 AM

I was wondering the same thing. Man, it's like showing pictures of your kid. No matter how ugly everybody else thinks it is, it's going to be the most beautiful thing you've ever seen. As long as it works, who cares!! I definitely want to try my hand a welding someday. :bigtu:

TheBandit 03-28-2007 01:49 AM

Looks like you forgot the part that makes it not quite so audible... If it makes you happy, then you did a good job.

SRT4's don't come with mufflers.

hey our balls are all wrinkly down there. but nobody sees em until it's too late anyway.

expensivehobby22 03-28-2007 10:32 AM

SRT-4s have a resonator and that's it.

My only suggestion is painting the welds with some sort of antirust coating.

My car is coming along, almost done. Should be runnable this weekend, or really close to it.
