I need a little help please with greddy kit.
Ok so I put the greddy 1.6 kit on yesterday with
-bipes -wide band o2 -vortech FPR with 12:1 disc ( I have all the other disc) -front mount intercooler with bov -93 oct gas -2.5'' down pipe -high flow cat with full 3'' staight pipe Rite now im at 5psi, my goal is 10. Ive done alot of searching and in order to get to my goal i need to add -300-375'ish injectors -and an external fuel pump 1. So my question to you is,how much boost do you think I can run safely as is.? 2.And am I correct on the parts need inorder to reach 10psi? |
You need bigger injectors and some real management, but as of now, I assume stock 1.6 injectors, i would say no more than 5-6 psi max.
ditch the external pump. |
While it is possible to get injectors in the mid-300 range to work on a 1.6 with the stock ECU, it is not an optimum situation. Essentially, you're going to find yourself tweaking the spring mechanism inside the airflow meter to find a compromise setting between shitty, over-rich idle and lean boost.
Traditionally, 8-10 PSI on the 1.6 has been achievable using an adjustable fuel pressure regulator (such as the Bell FMU) and a high-pressure fuel pump, with either the stock injectors or the tan-top injectors from a '94-'97 1.8, which are only marginally larger (230 vs. 205). These days however, I'd strongly urge you to consider using an aftermarket ECU, either a piggyback such as the eManage Ultimate, or a proper standalone like the Megasquirt or MSPNP. With one of these setups, you can get rid of your fuel pressure regulator (and your bipes ACU), run 440-460cc injectors, and adjust fuel and timing with a much greater deal of precision. Since you've already got a WBO2, you can also autotune with those computers. |
A walbro 190hp fuel pump and some 305cc injectors should get you there. I would save my monies though because eventually your gonna want to do what Joe just said.

You can never give more and better advice when Joe comes right on in, a thread. haha

I had no issues running 305 injectors; I did not have to adjust the spring in the AFM. The car runs like a dream at 14PSI. That said, I have every intention of upgrading to MS, and 550 injectors, as soon as I have the time to dedicate to tuning it.
To answer the OP, with a high pressure fuel pump, 1.8 tan top injectors, and the 12:1 disk you should be able to run between 9-10 PSI. YMMV |
I currently have the Greddy kit @5psi, with Emanage Blue & wideband O2.
To up the boost to 10psi I have decided to fit: Supra 320cc injectors, intercooler, dual feed fuel rail, uprated fuel pump. The fuel rail I would say is optional at this power level, and I know of cars running more power still using the stock fuel pump. My car is 15yrs old, as is the fuel pump, makes sense to upgrade it. This setup should easily let me see 10psi, and the fuel rail, fuel pump & intercooler will allow me to increase boost in the future, because as sure as eggs is eggs I WILL want more power in the future;) I fully intend to get a standalone ECU in the future, from what you say your setup will be adequate for 10psi, but i believe it is always better to have bit more in reserve, rather than pushing the limits of the equipment you have got. |
reading more and more of you turbo guys makes me wanna upgrade my stock greddy.......once i put it on. lol.

after runnind 10psi on the vortech and 1.8's finally getting rx7 injectors and ms is a whole new animal. Its a world of difference when everything is actually "in tune"

I think I almost got 3 weeks in before I started upgrading. It's a good learning experience before I get into building something better next year.

At about 7.5 psi, is an intercooler or BOV necessary?

serious now, after 6psi your intake temps go trough the roof. not worth the risk man... |
